Zip-it

Package Opener

Open Sesame

No one likes a gift you can’t open. Yet those annoying plastic clam-shell packages make it nearly impossible sometimes. They’re sealed tighter than a bank vault, the hard plastic can ruin scissors, and the sharp edges left behind are an accident waiting to happen.

This holiday season, save your hands, scissors and sanity with a Zip-it Opener. It’s a battery-operated device that can cut through hard plastic packaging with no trouble at all. Just attach the Zip-it to your package, press the button and guide the rollers
around like you would a can opener. Presto, your items (batteries, toys, tools, fluorescent light bulbs, whatever) are free from their plastic prison, and there are no sharp edges to worry about. Just don’t try it on a can of tomatoes; the Zip-it is intended only for cutting plastic packaging and paper envelopes.

The idea for the Zip-it came from Steve Fisher, a retired dentist who used to struggle to open plastic packages for his mother. Whenever he visited her, she had several waiting for him to open. So what does a good son do? He invents something that his mother can use safely and effectively, and his family pitched in. Steve’s oldest daughter helped design the handle, and his youngest daughter and son-in-law took on operations and distribution. After two years in design and development, their invention is making life easier for all of us, one package at a time.

I hate them! I hate them!

We have all said that many times when confronted with trying to open those difficult to open hard plastic packages with the sealed edges. Now, there is a safe, easy, and fun way to open all these packages with the battery powered Zip-it Opener.

I am Steve Fisher the inventor of the Zip-it Opener. I developed this because my mother could never open these packages. She was not strong and was afraid to use sharp tools for fear of cutting herself. Now, with the press of a button, you can easily guide the Zip-it around the package accessing the contents.

It is exciting that the Daily Grommet has chosen to introduce this safety device and frustration reliever to their valued customers. They make a wonderful gift for any occasion (even for yourself). End your frustration with these packages, and open them with a Zip-it Opener.

I remember the first time I encountered a clam shell package. I thought that I was missing something, there had to be an easy trick to opening these and I was just missing it. It did not occur to me that they weren't designed to be opened!

I'm always blown away when an individual, without the backdrop or support of a huge corporation, tackles an invention like this one. It's no small feat to bring any product to market, but this one seems even more involved. Kudos to you Steve for following your vision and presenting a product that will make life easier for your Mom and many others. I'm glad to have met the guy behind the product!

There is a god and her name is Steve! iloveu, iloveu, iloveu!!! I hate, hate, hate opening these horribly impossible plastic. I am buying these for all of my friends as stocking stuffers for xmas. I will put this in my blog, however, not until after the holidays. I mean, think how much I will be loved when everyone gets one of these under the tree and can use it to open all those great gifts with the annoying packaging. hallelujah we are saved!

Thanks Katherine for the compliment. This was a fun project knowing that so many people have this problem. I have never met anyone who said "I just love the frustration of opening clamshell packages." Because it is battery powered (2 AAs), it makes opening these difficult packages easy for everyone regardless of hand strength or dexterity.

Jeannette - you obviously are a member of the wrap rage community (my target audience), and the Zip-it is here to turn your rage to fun. You will have fun zipping open your packages. The Zip-its really do work well, but remember to remove the cover before opening most packages. The only problems I am aware of occur when the cover is not removed.

What's the life of this gadget (number of uses) before it needs to be replaced?

Ell - we have a company who uses two of these all day everyday. They have told me that the battery charge lasts about 300 packages. They replace the batteries and keep going. They have yet to wear theirs out with continued use!

@xxox - your statement could have come from me a few years ago. Because the stories of the instant product successes are prevalent (even though in actuality they are extremely rare), there's a misconception about easy money when you invent and sell a product. If you are also as I was, you are probably always on the cusp of coming up with that next great idea yourself! I highly, highly urge you to go for it. The process is eye opening and a huge, learning experience. You will have a much greater appreciation for those who do put the effort and take the risks to bring a product to market or to start their own business.

Not everyone will see the value in this product, but for those who do need it (like Steve's mom!) it can be a very important addition.

Grommet Fans! It is great to be back as Todays Feature. We are in the warehouse and will ship all the orders we receive today, today. The Zip-it is a must for Christmas morning. You know you will be receiving gifts wrapped in the Fort Knox plastic packaging. Rather than have the usual arsenal of knives and saws at the ready, go for the Zip-it. Safe and easy for everyone in the family to use. Have a fun morning zipping!! Wishing all of you a most enjoyable Holiday Season.

Our order arrived today, and we had to try out the Zip-it right away. It works just like the video shows! From a grandmother down to a teenager, these are gifts we're giving this Christmas - and keeping one ourselves. Thank you, Steve! Hope lots of people get these handy gifts so they can open their packages of batteries that one always seems to need at Christmas.

My Dad has Parkinson's and I love finding products like this that let him do things like open the g----n package! Now he can still be the guy we rely on to open things for us.

It seems like a small thing but it's not. It's important to him and his pride.

    Thanks!
