Invisibelt

Invisible No Buckle Belt

All Belt, No Buckle and No Bulk

To belt or not to belt? It’s a question most of us have debated. You don’t want to leave the house with a big gap at the back of your pants, yet a bulky belt buckle would ruin the lines of your fitted top. So which do you settle for, a loose waistline or a bulging midsection? Talk about a no-win situation.

Kathy Kramer (left) used to tie shoelaces around her waist to cinch her pants without adding bulk, but the laces always slipped. So she used her expertise as a beauty editor and writer to invent this perfect
low-profile alternative. Her Invisibelt lies completely flat. It holds up your pants without adding any bulk. You adjust it to your size, so there’s no trailing belt tail, then snap the clasp for a slim connection. As an added benefit, the Invisibelt is non-metallic and won’t set off security alarms at the airport. We’re so glad Daily Grommet friend Karen Finn told us about this slimming find. It’s the perfect way to pull your outfit together… literally.

I'm the Grommet of the day! Check out my problem-solving product, the Invisibelt.

This flat, undetectable belt is intended to be worn under fitted tops (see ya later belt buckle bulge). You'll get the support of a belt, without the bump from a buckle! This flexible, functional belt adjusts like a bra --and the original fits size 0-14 while the plus size fits 16-4X. Oh, and did I mention that the Invisibelt solves the problem of plumber's butt and the need to tug and pull up pants that stretch. One fan wrote me, "This is the best invention since mascara." I hope you feel the same way! Please feel free to share your thoughts, comments and questions with me.

I've taken six flights this week and am writing this comment from a gate at the Denver airport. (Why do they have the TV blaring over my head?? It is set at a volume for my mother-in-law to hear with her hearing aid removed, wearing a thick wool cap, on an overdose of Benadryl. Not that I wish that on Eileen...seriously.) I sure could use an Invisibelt....as much as I dislike removing my shoes at the security screen, I find the belt rigamorole strangely embarrassing. Good work Invisibelt.

@LindaOC This Grommet community really supports sincere philanthropic efforts. Take a look at this blog post I wrote about the huge response we had to two philanthropic stories we told over the holidays: http://tinyurl.com/yexsu58 Over $25K in donations were given by our followers in just a few days.

And…I am delighted to see the support for today’s Haitian relief effort on our site. IF anyone wants to support clean water sources in Haiti in the future, one of the holiday philanthropies was Wine to Water and they already have permanent operations in Haiti that address creating clean water sources in needy Haitian communities. Their work is more needed than ever in this terrible crisis and tragedy.

Love the concept of this belt. I want one! But I'm a 14/16...depending on the make. My closet is about 50/50. I don't know which to buy?!? Any suggestions on whether these are sized large or small in that area?

    2/2/2010 1:22 PM

    @Lea - Kathy's guidance is this:

It's best to measure your waist where your pants hit. The regular, original belt extends to 43", including the clasp. If that won't work --then opt for the plus size belt.

I bought the this grommet - the invisible belt. The trouble with it is the material is too ridged to lay flat on my jeans or pants.

It's true you don't have a buckle protruding, but the belt shows because it doesn't conform to your body.

  • Katherine
    Katherine – Grommet Team
    1/21/2011 1:46 PM

@gale bailey: Thanks for sharing your experience! I haven't had the same experience, in fact I've noticed that over time the belt has stretched slightly on one side, so I know it is conforming to my body as time goes on. I wear my shirts skimming, but not tight, so I may not have the same viewpoint as you do.

  • Kathy
    Kathy – Special Guest
    1/24/2011 1:15 PM

@gale bailey: Make sure you adjust your belt before putting through loops and make it extra snug for super-flat results. The material softens after several uses.

I was curious as to how short the belt can go or if it can be cut. My daughter has that issue as well. She likes to wear snug fitting shirts, but needs a belt. Her hips - where she actually wears her jeans - are 29".

I thought this was a great idea & bought one last year, but am disappointed with it. Because it's made of plastic, it's slippery, so anywhere that your belt loops aren't close together it slides up. The belt ends up against your skin with the pants bulging out below it - exactly what you were trying to avoid!

  • Katherine
    Katherine – Grommet Team
    1/21/2011 3:45 PM

I really like my belt but would really love it if you could make another belt that is not as wide for my belt loops so that I could wear it with my belt loops that are thinner....if you made one I would instantly buy it.

  • Sherryl
    Sherryl
    1/28/2011 5:31 PM

@Lynn Holland: I agree - it does fit in the belt loops of my jeans, but it is a tight fit. I wish it was a little more narrow - maybe 1" wide to make it easier to put on with other pants. I hate belts, but I love the design of this one because it is so easy to "snap" together. I hoping the smell dissipates soon, and that it softens as others have commented.

Great product, but the smell of the plastic and I don't get along. I have placed them in the sun for days and no luck. I can't even keep them in my closet, because the smell of the plastic takes over. (BIG WALK IN) I bought 4 of them, 2 for me and 2 for my daughter. I need a solution to break down the smell. I'm having the same problem with the smell of the invisibelt. I've had mine for months and the smell is just as strong as ever. I try to wear it but end up with a headache and burning eyes and nose after a few hours. Is there any solution to this besides just waiting it out which doesn't seem to be working?

  • Katherine
    Katherine – Grommet Team
    9/18/2011 12:01 AM

@Lynette Warner: I would suggest that you return your belt if it is affecting you so strongly. I recently purchased a second belt and did try a number of ways to get the initial odor to dissipate more quickly. I was not successful; it simply becomes less over time. I found that after the first week, I personally couldn't smell the belt while I was wearing it. However, I can smell it still if I get close to it.

@Janet Ogata: It is toxic! PVC is one of the most poisonous plastics, as it has to be plasticized with pthalates (which are linked with cancer). See this site for more info http://healthychild.org/blog/comments/pvc_the_most_toxic_plastic/

  • Tori
    Tori – Grommet Team
    1/13/2012 2:04 PM

@Blackthnder: The width of the Original is 1.25" and the width of the Skinny is 1". As for the smell, most people find that it begins to dissipate over time. After the first week or so, the smell should only be noticeable if you smell it close up.

Why does it smell so bad??????no one has asked that question. I would love to purchase a couple of these belts, but am concerned about the smell. And some people say it took months, and still it smells????? what exactly is causing it to smell???

  • Tori
    Tori – Grommet Team
    1/14/2012 10:03 PM

@Maureen: The initial smell is from he plastic PVC that the belt is made of. It seems that most people experience the smell fading and barely noticeable after two weeks or so. However, for those that may be really sensitive to smells it sounds like it lingers a bit longer than that.

I bought one because I'm in love with the idea of it. When my belt arrived, it's put together wrong. The belt won't buckle because the holes are both up and the little nubs are both down. I got my belt last week. It DOES smell, big time. To me it feels very cheap, seriously, $20 for this? You never say anything about the back where you actually have to adjust the size of the belt so the front is great but now you have the bulk on the back! And when I get in my car I got stuck with the back part of the belt and the car seat so much so that I am afraid one of these days it is going to break the leather of the seat! Would return but I do not have the original packing. Sorry, this didn't work for me.

@Clau: The initial smell is from the plastic PVC that the belt is made of. It seems that most people experience the smell fading after two weeks or so. However, for folks that may be really sensitive to smells, it seems to linger a bit longer. You definitely should not have the bulk at the back. Make sure you adjust your belt before putting through the loops of your pants; this will help make it extra snug at the back. The material also softens after several uses. I know this email is from several months ago but I just had to reply. Clau is exactly correct. I have had my belt for over a year and the smell is just starting to completely go away. I couldn't wear it at all for many months, it smelled up my whole walk in closet also. Very stong chemical/plastic smell. I also thought the whole idea of the belt is that it was "invisible", the lump in the back from the size adjuster is bigger than some of my regular belt buckles.I did try it with one top that was looser in back so the buckle didn't show, but it is also very hot to wear a plastic band around your waist in the summer and if you are sitting in a hrad back chair it is not comfortable with that lump at your back. Not worth the price. Get a belt with a military style slide buckle.

I travel via airplane several times a year. And with my body shape, I need to wear a belt to feel like my pants are worn properly. I love this belt...I can wear it through security no problem. Over time, and given that I'm a larger person, it does tend to curl. I've now completely worn out my first belt...will try to control the curling by winding up and "resting" the belt in between wearings.

It is a wonderful idea and product. I just wish it didn't smell so bad. The plastic it is made of stinks to high heaven. I still wear it but I can't hang it on my belt hanger because it smells up my whole closet!

I purchased this to make air travel easier. It did just that for several years. However, now that there is a different way that TSA screens, even this belt has to be removed...and they were suspicious of my wrinkled support stockings! It is still GREAT for keeping things smooth, and if one is faced with only the metal detector at TSA, it is still GREAT for travel.

not sure of which size belt to purchase. Comfortable fit for belt on my jeans would be a 41 1/2. While the original fits up to 43" I am concerned that I would be cutting it a little too close. Which do you advise I purchase....the original or the plus size one. Thanks!

@ Sue: The Invisibelt Team has this to share: The Original Size should work. It extends to about 44”. If it’s a concern, the Plus Size would definitely work. It is not exclusively a Plus Size belt, as it will adjust down to smaller sizes - “non-plus” sizes."

I bought this belt becase I am built very straight up and down. My pants want to slip down and then I have a baggy seat; I have no curves to hold them up! I have tried belts to hold my pants up but was disappointed because the buckles added bulk to my muffin top. This belt holds my pants up and doesn't make my middle look fat! I have had the belt a few days and the smell is dissipating. It smells just like a mat I have for cutting fabric with a rotary blade. It was strong and I kept it in the garage, exposed to the air, but after a few months I can't smell it and it stays in the house. It smells like the ammonia from a blueprinting machine (architecture). I suggest you make sure you keep it unrolled and out of the plastic container...put it on a hanger in the garage.

I would very much like to purchaseseveral of these belts, but am really concerned about the reports of the strong odor of the plastic, not only on this site but also on other sites. Has this issue been resolved? I was all set to order, but have put it on hold until I hear back from you. Thanks!!!

@ Cheryl S.: The initial smell is from the plastic PVC that the belt is made of. It seems that most people experience the smell fading after two weeks or so. For folks that may be really sensitive to smells, it seems to linger a bit longer. It's truly a wonderful Grommet that many of our customers (& us folks who work at Daily Grommet) can't leave home without when wearing pants.

Love , love, love it!!!! What a great find! I have worn it everyday since I received it. I had a huge problem with a gap in the back of my pants and I have been losing weight. This belt solves both problems! I can still wear my pants and they are much more comfortable now. I am thinking about ordering these for my friends for gifts. I am afraid I will wear it out-maybe I should order myself another one!! Thanks!!
