Lark Fine Foods

Cookies for Grown-Ups

Deliciously Different Cookies

You might think you know cookies. Sure, you know your mom’s homemade cookies, local bakery treats and the store-bought brands your kids like best. These cookies however, from Lark Fine Foods are different. They’re not for stashing in lunchboxes or serving on plastic plates with a side of apple juice. They’re for grown-ups with a craving for sophisticated treats.

Mary Ann McCormick (right) and Nicole Nordensved started this gourmet cookie business after a guest raved about their chocolate refrigerator cookie, called the
Cha-Cha, that’s infused with a surprise chili pepper spice. Now the mother-daughter duo makes a whole line of cookies, some spicy, some savory, all geared for the grown-up palate.

Mary Ann sent us some samples after she saw Daily Grommet on the New England news show Chronicle. Now we’re hooked. Lark has a flair for combining unusual ingredients to create treats that are both sweet and savory, like rosemary-seasoned shortbread dusted with sea salt, or the Polenta Pennies laced with lemon and raisins. You can choose a sampler pack with three or six varieties, then prepare to indulge. You’ll find Lark’s treats are never too sweet, and they pair just as nicely with tea, milk or a glass of wine. Your taste buds will thank you.

My name is Mary Ann McCormick and I, along with my daughter, Nicole Nordensved, own this little cookie company we call Lark Fine Foods. We're both serious food lovers, so it seems only natural that we find ourselves baking cookies for a living. Our cookies are quite different from others in markets today - some are sweet and savory, some spicy, all deliciously different. If you haven't tried them, we hope you'll do so soon. Though we call them "cookies for grown-ups," kids love them too (Nicole's youngest, who isn't even three, demands a peppery-spicy Cha-Cha every time she hears us talking about them).

We're very excited that The Daily Grommet has chosen to feature Lark Fine Foods today. We're looking forward to taking a break from baking, sitting down with a cup of hot tea and a warm, fresh-from-the-oven cookie, and chatting with you about our company, our cookies, or anything else you'd like to talk about.

Hi Stacee: We love creating new cookies and have lots of ideas for new ones, but we can't tell you yet what they are! I can tell you that one new cookie might be a chocolate cookie without the spice, as chocolate is a staple in many diets!

Kim, we don't have our ingredients lists on the web but they are, of course, on our cookie packaging. We use a high quality enriched flour, eggs, butter and sugar. The Coco Locos are flavored with real rum. We use all natural vanilla and lemon flavorings, a very high quality cocoa and spices. We don't use any nuts (though nuts are used in the facility we bake in). We use no artificial ingredients - everything is pure and natural.

Kim: As a follow up to my earlier response, the flour is white flour. Your question raises a good point; we have experimented with recipes containing whole wheat flour and may add a whole wheat product to our line at some point.

Wow! I had a chance to sample these at the Daily Grommet office, and they are 150% delicious grown-up cookies. The Salted Rosemary Shortbread really knocked me out. I think these cookies would make a fantastic and very sophisticated dessert for a dinner party. We also included these in some holiday gift baskets my family sent this year. YUM.

Before Thanksgiving you featured something similar - a gourmet Ice Cream assortment that was like no other. We ordered it for the holiday and it was a huge hit. Everyone loved sampling their exquisite combinations. These cookies sound very similar - something that would be a big hit at a party because they are unique and sophisticated. Can you imagine how much your coworkers would love you if you dropped these off in the lunchroom? Cool Grommet!

The company my daughter, Nicole, used to work for received a holiday gift basket of gourmet foods and some of our cookies were included in the basket. They loved them. We think pairing our cookies with uniquely flavored ice cream would be an awesome pairing.

Hi DJP: Our cookies make great gifts. I think we've all received gifts of food and sometimes the item is a litle underwhelming - you know what I mean. We promise you that our cookies will not disappoint. We're very fussy about what we eat and even more fussy about the product we make. Try the assortment pack- they'll make a great Valentine's gift.

These sound amazing! Do they freeze well?

  • MaryAnn McCormick

Hi Pat: Yes, our cookies freeze very successfully. We use a good oxygen-barrier bag that is heat sealed and pinched closed so they are well protected and well sealed. We've done some blind testing of fresh baked vs. frozen cookies and we sincerely cannot tell the difference. If you are not going to eat the cookies soon after receiving them, we suggest freezing to retain freshness.

Hi GL: Thanks for writing in. Our cookies are not overly sweet so they do appeal to people who don't suffer from a sweet tooth. Almost all of our cookies are great with cheese - we love the Scourtins (black olive wafer) with blue cheese and the Salted Rosemary Shortbread are delicious with Brie or even goat cheese, as are the Cha-Chas (if you like a little spicy kick). We hope you'll try them and we hope you enjoy them.

@Deb and Mary Ann - there is no where in the shopping cart to indicate special shipping instructions. However, there is a place to write in a gift message. Deb, when you place your order, please write your special shipping instructions to Mary Ann (along with your Valentine's message) in the gift message box so that Mary Ann gets them with your order.
