Beaded Versatility

The latest creation from designer Jianhui (pronounced “Janway”) Yan is a showstopper of a necklace. How you wear it is entirely up to you. When it’s warm you can wear the beads long and loose, like a conventional necklace, and when it’s cold you can twist and shape them into a thick, scarf-like choker.

Each set includes 10 strands of beads. The beads are saturated with rich colors, and the texture is irresistible. There’s
something satisfyingly therapeutic about running your fingers through the strands of lightweight beads, which are made from salvaged wood scraps and colored with natural dyes.

Jianhui launched his career in jewelry design as a young man, when he went to London and saw women wearing colorful jewelry that reminded him of mountain flowers from his childhood in rural China. He began making jewelry for his mother, and later for family and friends, and his talents took over. With its saturated colors, tactile beads, and dramatic possibilities, Jianhui’s “Next Pashmina – Wood” collection will bring out your creative side.

Grommet Launch Conversation

Hello everyone! I am very happy that The Grommet is launching my design The Next Pashmina-Wood today! About 4 years ago, when I was sitting at a small furniture workshop and chatting with the carpenter who is a friend of my father's, I saw him throwing away a lot of off-cuts. It was from that moment, the Next Pashmina was born. Now it is an award winning design and loved by many prestigious places like MoMA, V&A, Agnes b., The Museum of Fine Art Houston and The Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago. The Next Pashmina is also a project that increases the awareness of recycling and protecting our environment. The Next Pashmina is a very versatile design. You can wear it with many different ways. It is light. So it is a very good necklace for you to take on holidays.

Is it possible to separate the 10 strands if you want to wear a smaller version?

@Donna Dear Donna, many thanks for your question. Yes, indeed, you can wear as many strands as you would like to! Because there are 10 separated strands in this necklace. To separate them, simply undo the ribbon. Best regards jianhui

The design looks really beautiful, and good for the environment too if it is made from recycled wood. You have four combinations shown. Is it possible to buy a variety of separate strands to make up lots of different designs?

I love this design! I bought one recently at a store in NY. Amazing colours, really light and playful! Jewellery made from wood off cuts, brilliant idea. This is my feel good-look good piece of jewellery.
