BottleHood

Glassware & Jewelry

Message In A Bottle

Have you ever wondered where recycled glass bottles wind up? The lucky ones find their way to BottleHood, where they’re transformed into cool glassware and jewelry in Leslie Tiano’s workshop.

Leslie and her team work with screen-printed beer, wine, liquor and soda bottles that they collect from restaurants, bars, and breweries. In their hands, the used glassware is reinvented as juice glasses, tumblers, bracelets, necklaces
and earrings. The idea for the company grew out of a desire to keep jobs in the neighborhood and keep bottles out of the landfill, says Leslie, an artist and eco-activist who launched Bottlehood in San Diego in 2009.

When you first see Bottlehood's jewelry, it’s not immediately obvious that it comes from old bottles. The glass has a tumbled, frosted finish that resembles sea glass and gives the whole line of jewelry a chic, beach-like vibe. Bottlehood's approach to glassware is more literal. Leslie’s juice glasses and tumblers display their past lives proudly, with the bottles’ original graphics preserved. Each rescued bottle is cut, ground, sanded and polished until it’s a functional work of art -- not to mention an instant conversation starter.

For the majority of my life I've reused, recycled or repurposed so the transition into creating glassware from reclaimed glass bottles is a continuous thread in my lifestyle. From old 501s to rusted furniture to art canvases, there's a unique patina along with great stories that come from giving new life to used or found objects. I am here to answer your questions.

Hi Siddhi -- They are eco-friendly with their packaging. The jewelry comes in a plastic sleeve with a cardboard piece that tells a bit about the Bottlehood story. They pack their boxes with shredded, recycled newspaper to keep the pieces safe during shipping.

These pieces do make the perfect gift, since they have such a nice story, on top of being unique, beautiful jewelry designs!

When I first saw this necklace on DG I knew I would love it. I suggested it as a Mother's Day gift and received it! Then my sister bought one, we gave one to my mom for her birthday and my aunt also ordered it. We are hooked!!! It is even more lovely in person!

We totally did this and love our glasses/bottles. Not only are they more durable than your average glass, but they alway spark a great conversation with our guests. We are so in love with recycled bottles, that we have vases made out of Gin bottles, old milk bottles and glass water bottles. Such a great idea and so functional! Also make fantastic wedding gifts!

is it possible to get a lariat style necklace with grey goose ?

i also really like the light blue (aquamarine?) glass ring from the jack and coke lariat with the silver chain.

I don't understand the sizing for the bangles. Does the 2.5" bangle fit a 7 1/4" wrist?

@Sally Dominguez St John: The 2.75 " bangle is the better fit for your wrist.
