When Donna Dockins, a chef from Oregon, befriended a New Zealand couple visiting Portland, she had no idea that they would inspire a new business. The couple mailed her a box of goodies from New Zealand after they returned home, but she didn’t know what to do with the package of dukkah. When she finally tried the Egyptian nut-spice combination, she was hooked. She saw hazelnuts in the list of ingredients, and a light bulb went off in her head. Oregon produces the world’s best hazelnuts, so she could make dukkah locally.

By the time Donna did her homework, created some stellar combinations of dukkah, and figured out how to source recycled board boxes as well as biodegradable bags, it was the dead of winter. Yet she still managed to sell 99 packages of dukkah within four hours at her first appearance at the local farmers market! She hasn’t looked back, and today she offers us five delightful flavors of Oregon Dukkah.

This is a versatile vegan, gluten-free product, made from hazelnuts, sesame seeds and spices that have been pounded together. It’s full of protein, calcium, minerals and fiber -- and it’s sure to liven up any meal. Use it as a simple appetizer with bread and olive oil, pour some on yogurt or fruit, or add some labneh for a real treat. Be sure to try the coconut rice pudding recipe inside each Oregon Dukkah box!

    ingredients that would support both health and the joy of eating. When I was

    introduced to dukkah I was first drawn to its complex flavors and simplicity. It

    seemed like it could go with anything by adding flavor and crunch to even old

    favorite recipes. Another draw that pushed me to develop Oregon Dukkah was the ability to source high quality ingredients and packaging locally. With a lot of encouragement and input from friends and family, I was able to develop and market the five flavor profiles of Oregon Dukkah. I am still amazed how versatile it is. Whether you pride yourself as an accomplished cook or just like to open a box and pour, I think you will enjoy Oregon Dukkah. I am so pleased to be here

    @Karen Cook: Hi Karen, Thanks for this good question. All ingredients in dukkah are dry roasted, so it is not a "raw" food.

    What size are the packets? How much does each contain?

    Hi Ellen,

    The packets contain 2 ounces of dukkah, which is about 1/2 cup. Oregon Dukkah goes a long way!

    Especially, if used as a dry dip with bread and olive oil or as a fruit dip.

    My family is watching it's sugar intake. Are these products no sugar added?

    @Chenell:

    Chenell, I agree watching sugar intake is really important which is why the Sweet and Coconut flavors have very little

    cane juice added. There is 1 gram of sugars in 1 Tbs. of Sweet & Coconut. I worked at keeping sodium low as well. The Zesty, Traditional and Smoky Hot flavors are sugar free. The nutritional count for sodium is 0% for Sweet & Coconut. Zesty has 1 % sodium while Traditional and Smoky Hot have 2 % sodium.

    I can't keep this stuff in stock, it gets eaten so fast! We like the savory varieties best: Traditional and Spicy. We use it to top soup or yogurt. If I let him, our boy would eat a whole package in one meal.

    I Love Dukkah . I have had it on fish,chiken,salad and used as a dip. It comes in so many varieties,sweet,savory and spicy... good for everyone.TRY IT!

    Thanks for this grommet - healthy and delicious. I ordered my 3 pack last Tuesday and received it very quickly. Thanks for the recipes too. I'm sure there are more online but I immediately made the carrot salad with my zesty variety...love it! Can't wait to try the others...and buy more!!

    At first I was surprised by the silicon dioxide, so I looked it up and found some very interesting info on this. All good, so don't worry. Just in case some of you were thinking of the li'l packets that come with shoes, I was, not the same thing so I attached a link just in case any have questions.
