Preserve

Eco-friendly Home Products

Responsibly Recycled

Have you ever thought about what happens to old toothbrushes after they’ve been replaced with new ones? Most of them wind up in landfills -- but not toothbrushes from Preserve. The toothbrush handle is made from 100% recycled materials (the bristles are made from new nylon), and each set of four comes with three postage-paid mailing packs so you can return your used toothbrushes for recycling.

That’s the whole idea behind Preserve: To make use of recycled materials and turn them into products people want. Eric Hudson
founded Preserve in 1996 and teamed with dentists and engineers to refine the Preserve Toothbrush, the company’s first product made using recycled plastics. Since then, Preserve has expanded its lineup and is making a range of personal care and kitchen products -- including razors, colanders, cutting boards, and tableware -- out of used materials

All of Preserve’s plastic products are recyclable, and they’re made in the U.S. Design is paramount -- there’s no sacrificing style or usability for eco-friendliness. The textured surface of the cutting board hides knife marks, for instance, and funnel spouts on the mixing bowls make it easy to pour batter and sauces. Eric is equally passionate about building an environmentally responsible business as he is about creating smart, well designed solutions. His dedication makes it easy to choose Preserve.

Hi everybody. I started Preserve to re-use earth’s resources by designing fabulous products you use every day in your home and making them with safe, recycled materials. Our products are the fruits of your labors, as we collect the yogurt cups and other #5 plastics you recycle, and turn them into new Preserve products, like toothbrushes, tableware and food storage containers. I am here to answer any questions you have.

@Monica: All of Preserve's products are made in the USA, primarily in MA, NY and MI. There is one exception with our razor blades. The parts are made in the US and are then assembled in Mexico.

I recycle yogurt cups, peanut butter containers & cottage chees containers by saving them poking holes in the bottom & starting my seed for the next spring for my garden. We have a great plastic reclycle center here in Des Moines, Ia & what I can't reclycle I send to the city for them to recycle.

Is it possible to send #5 plastic containers directly to you? I don't have an easy means of recycling them, as my trash company doesn't take them.

    Hi,

What size colander and cutting board comes in the kitchen starter kit? Also, is it possible to substitute the green colander and cutting board for red ones?

  • Katherine

@Trisha : It is the small colander and small cutting board. Unfortunately, these are packed as a set and so it isn't possible to make color substitutions.

Hi there!! I have to say I am already a fan of Preserve. I mail in my big box of #5's every six months or so. It's so good to see you as a featured seller here on Daily Grommet, that way more people will find out about your good work. My question is this...do your razor blades fit a Mach 3 razor blade handle? I don't want to get rid of the metal handle I already own if I don't have to...but I would rather get my blades from you. Thanks!

@KGB1979: Great to hear that you have been recycling with us. Thanks for your question. Our blades are compatible with the Gillette ® Sensor ® and the Personna ® Acti-Flexx ® but not the Mach 3 ®. We agree that it’d be wasteful to get rid of a functioning handle. So please try Preserve Razor when it makes sense. In the meantime, have you tried our toothbrushes?
