Silpoura

Clip-on Spout

Pour It On

The longer we played with Silpoura, the more uses we found for this handy gadget. You can drain pasta, strain grease from bacon and sautéed hamburger, drizzle melted chocolate like a pro, and pour cupcake and pancake batter without drips or splatters. And that’s just in the kitchen. In the garage or workshop, Silpoura makes it a breeze to pour paint and stains.

The inventor, James Archer, came up with the idea for Silpoura after seeing his wife, Gail, struggle to drain bacon grease into a soda can during a camping trip.
After many prototypes, he created the clip-on Silpoura spout, which comes with its own detachable strainer. It easily attaches to mixing and serving bowls, pots, pans, skillets and double boilers. You can pour and strain with precision, and Silpoura also doubles as a spoon rest. It’s a true go-to gadget that makes short work of everyday kitchen and cooking tasks.

Hi Daily Grommet! Thanks for featuring Silpoura – the original clip-on pouring spout.

Every packet of taco mix says “pour off excess grease." We all know that grease is bad for our health – so when we cook, we have to get rid of the grease. But how? Don’t pour grease down the sink! Use SILPOURA to pour your hot oil and grease into a can for proper disposal – or even better, for recycling! That old oil and grease can be turned into fuel!

Every year, millions and millions of gallons of cooking oil and grease go down America’s sewers. This causes problems – BIG problems – and not just for the cities that have to treat the water. Homeowners also have expensive problems with blocked sewer pipes. We believe that Silpoura can help America (and the world!) STOP THE GREASE!

But wait – Silpoura isn’t JUST for grease. Silpoura is great for pouring just about anything from a skillet, pot, pan, bowl, bucket and even a double boiler. Pour soups and batters (mmm, perfect pancakes – or CUP CAKES!), strain rice and vegetables. You get the idea.

    Have a look!

Do these come in more than 1 size or are they all the same size?

@Maria Wong - the wonderful thing about the Silpoura is that it is flexible enough to conform to a number of different sized pots, pans, and bowls. It only comes in the one size.

This gadget looks very useful. Is it small enough to use on a normal size cereal bowl? How about a coffee cup?

@ Judy G - Cereal bowl, yes. Coffee cup, no.

This is a terrific idea! But what keeps the liquid from getting under the spout and going everywhere?

  • James

@ Shay Kreider - Great Question! The short answer is that we tilt the bottom edge backward a little so it presses against the inside of the bowl/pan to make a seal.

The longer answer is that we use a really high grade silicone and did a lot of testing (no, really a LOT of testing) to specify just the right hardness of silicone to make it flexible enough to fit different size bowls, but rigid enough to make a good seal. THEN, we formed the mold that we use to make the spouts so that the actual sealing edge is wedged shaped and bent in towards the bowl to help even more with the seal.

I hope this helps - thanks for the question!

What an awesome product! Definitely will be ordering this, less messing with a colander, which I find to be a pain in the butt with pasta. And draining the fat off ground meat? That is totally awesome. Thanks!

This looks great! I like the green one, but I'm guessing if I order the set of 3 they will all be red like in the photo. Is that correct?

@ Ruth VanderLaan - they are currently only available in Red.

I asked James about the green one and he says that that was an earlier prototype. The red seems to be the most popular color in the US market but they will roll out other colors as they expand.

@Cookie Connell: The Silpoura Team did a lot of research to have the Silpoura made in US, unfortunately it would mean not being able to keep the price reasonable. It's currently made in China using high quality Japanese silicon.

Looks like a neat gadget. I was wondering if the pricing is correct. At $7.95 for one and $15.95 for a set of 2 it is actually $0.05 cheaper to get 2 singles than a set of 2. Not that the nickel difference really matters, but it just seemed strange so made me wonder if the prices were correct.

@ Larry: Thanks for the catch. Pricing is corrected. Buying 2 Silpouras is a savings of 95 cents, definitely better than a nickel.

I was very excited about this product, especially for pouring out grease from browning ground beef. I have MS and limited hand strength, so this seemed perfect for me. I even purchased a few, thinking it would be great for my parents and a friend. Unfortunately, I haven't had much success with mine - when the beef gets near the Silpoura it simply pushes it off the pan, dumping the ground beef all over. The same happened with cupcake batter. I found this to be a disappointment, and as such won't be giving one to my parents and a friend.

@Suzanne Harkness-Wood Hi Suzanne - We're so sorry that Silpoura isn't meeting your expectations. There are so many different pan designs on the market that it is possible you have one that Silpoura doesn't attach well to. If the pan has very sloped walls, or the food is heavy, sometimes it is necessary to hold Silpoura on the pan with your spatula while pouring so that it doesn't slip off. The seal should still work even if this is the case. But in the end, our goal is to make sure you are satisfied. I would be happy to work you you personally to try to figure out what is happening. Or, of course, you may return it to us for a refund. You can contact me throught the contact page on our web site at www.silpoura.com James Archer - President - Silpoura

This is the kind of reason Silpoura is a great Grommet. It's so much about the people behind the product.

If I purchase the set of two or three, are they individually packaged so that I can give them as gifts? Or are they packaged as a single unit of two or three?
