Pure Illumination

Lanolin and Light Up Cosmetics

The Lanolin Difference

Miranda Coggins couldn’t find anything to soothe her chronic chapped lips until she tried using a lanolin-based cream she bought after the birth of her daughter. She found the same natural moisturizer that brings relief to breastfeeding moms works wonders on her dry, cracked lips. Inspired by that discovery, Miranda started developing a line of nourishing beauty products made of natural ingredients including lanolin, jojoba, coconut, and sweet almond oils.

Her maverick approach to cosmetics didn’t stop with the
ingredients. Miranda set out to improve the application process, too. She added an LED light and mirror to her lip gloss and mascara, to enable precise application on the go. The LED light provides just enough illumination to see what you’re doing in any setting.

Today we’re featuring a range of products from The Lano Company. Miranda’s therapeutic lip balm does double duty -- it replenishes dry lips and conditions your cuticles. For color, her long-wearing Lip Stain is formulated with natural berry extracts to enhance your skin tone, and the Light Up Lip Gloss adds moisturizing gloss color. Lip Scrub exfoliates dry lips naturally, and Light Up Mascara moisturizes and conditions eyelashes. Nourishment never looked -- and felt -- so good.

Necessity is the mother of invention, right? In this case, my chronically chapped lips, combined with my time spent at home with my newborn baby (now eight years old - that's her in the picture there) were the perfect storm of necessity to help me create LanoLip lip balm, and ultimately, The Lano Company. After years of chronically chapped lips and suffering with product after product that couldn't provide relief, I tried the lanolin I was using while nursing my daughter. For the first time in almost three decades, I finally had some relief. I told my husband that I thought I could turn that lanolin into some sort of lip balm, so I started cooking up different 'formulas' on my stove top. I landed on the right one and voila, a company was born.

Six years later, we're still 'cooking' with lanolin, but we've expanded to include the Pure Illumination line of lip and beauty products made with medical grade lanolin, and other incredible ingredients that you can actually pronounce…like jojoba oil, sweet almond oil, Vitamin E and extracts from berries. Real ingredients with healing properties; that's important to me. I hope it is for you, too! I look forward to hearing from you.

I appreciate the healing power of lanolin and that these products are formulated with natural substances, I only wish that they weren't packaged with disposable mirrors and lights. How does this packaging get recycled?

I appreciate the question and it is something that we have been looking into. We have been considering having customers send the empty glosses back in for refilling but it is not something that is an available option right now. We do recycle all of our boxes, packing material work daily to help the environment by reusing everything we can in the prodution process and shipping daily.

It might be easier to to ask your hair, eye and skin color, maybe we could suggest a shade. However, I do work very hard to make sure that all of our colors look great on ALL skin tones. Our most popular neutral colors are Pouty Pink and Nude Beach.

Hello! The lip product sounds great. Is this product "cruelty free"? And, am curious about the mascara as well (same question) and also more detail about it (i.e. ingredients). Thanks!

All of our products are "cruelty free" and NOT tested on animals.

For a complete list of ingredients, please visit our specs page http://thelanocompany.com/~lano/cart.php?m=content&page=25

I do not believe the mascara is listed on the page becuase it is such a new product but I will add it as soon as I return to the office. Hope this helps.
