Performance Underwear

Rethinking Intimates

Antonia Dunbar and sisters, Miki and Radha Agrawal, decided it was time to rethink women’s underwear. Voters at The Grommet’s 2013 Product Pitch Event agreed. Meet the winner—a technologically advanced, leak and stain resistant hip hugging style of underwear that is comfortable, breathable, and beautiful.

THINX consists of four super thin, seamless layers, each one with its own thoughtful purpose. The first layer is
antimicrobial and moisture wicking. The second is slightly absorbent. The third is completely leak proof through the gusset. And the fourth is where innovation intersects with beauty for a look as flattering as it is practical.

Whether it’s that time of the month or you just want a little added protection to stay fresh and dry while exercising or for a night out on the town, THINX has you covered. Move over disposable panty liners, there’s a more eco-friendly and attractive solution now available.

For every pair you buy, THINX partners with AFRIpads to manufacture 7 washable, reusable cloth pads for African women and girls in need. Your purchase not only helps create jobs in Africa, but also prevents girls from having to miss school due to their monthly cycle. Now that time of the month can be just as productive as any other.

Say goodbye to embarrassing monthly mishaps and ruined clothes. Say hello to a pair of underwear that not only thinks of you but thinks of women and girls around the world.

Hi! Thrilled to meet all of you and talk about a smart, beautiful and thoughtful solution to a taboo issue for so many women and girls around the world. I'm Antonia, one of the co-founders of THINX, a comfortable, beautifully-created line of leak and stain-resistant underwear that thinks of you every day of the month, and for women and girls worldwide. For every pair of THINX you buy, you are not only getting the support and confidence of wearing THINX, you are also directly helping one girl in the developing world obtain the resources she needs to stay in school. Along with my two co-founders, twin sisters and dear friends of mine, Miki and Radha Agrawal, we are so excited to now be here on The Grommet to share this story and how you can join us! Please watch the video above as it will give you a good idea of how THINX works, and how together we can make the world a smarter, more thoughtful place. If you have any other questions, we're here!

Hi Laurie! There are a few good spots where this is answered, but one other thing to keep in mind beyond this being a high-tech,patent-pending and well-constructed product - every single pair of THINX you buy funds the production of SEVEN washable, reusable pads that helps to keep a girl in the developing world in school, starting with a focus in Uganda.

And one other thing - we found from our surveys with women that we are throwing away anywhere from 5-30 pairs of underwear a year. Even if you spend just $4 on a pair of underwear, that could be $20-$120 a year just to throw them away! It's high time for us ladies to get smarter underwear that performs well and continues to endure during a much longer lifecycle than the more flimsily constructed pairs on the market.@Laurie

@Antonia This is the greatest conversation (all comments from top to bottom) I have heard since the Women's Movent way back then in the last century! It covers all the problems we have with money, moisture, size, age, incontinence, etc.

I, too, gulped at the price, but considering the total effect of purchasing these smart-pants - what a bargain! I make many contributions to good causes, but this is the most practical by far.

Personal comfort, aiding young women to go to work or school without missing several days per month - self image! Work for the women who make these inserts - family forward movent. More food!

I am 82 and have seen much movement for women, and these panties are one of the most practical and best moves I have seen. Thank all you ladies for the ideas, the questions and the answers.

    Hi Laura and Laurie,

These are more expensive than your typical underwear, but that is because they aren't your typical underwear! These are specially designed panties with new patent pending technology to keep you protected, no matter the day or time of month. When you consider the cost of pantiliners in a year, you'll find that this can be a more economical choice as they can replace pantiliiners.

@Jeanette Size chart is linked at the end of the description on the BUY page, not this page. They are corresponding to measurements and pant sizes.

@Antonia I am very sad to see that, while there are some plus sizes, they end at 20/22. You're willing to go down to 0 for the thinner crowd, now how about opening up the larger end of the scale a little bit? Of course, that doesn't mater as much since this "hip hugger" style is not at all flattering to the round plus size woman. I would consider buying if you had a full-fit option.

Hey ladies! Yes, we always intended to offer a more vast array of sizes. That's why we have one size larger than one of the main underwear producers (you know, the "secret" one) who we quite honestly can't believe don't offer 2x, 3x etc. when they absolutely have the capability to do so!

As more and more of you awesome trailblazers join the story and tell friends, which all helps this movement to grow, we'll be able to be go back to our manufacturing partners with more support to then get even larger sizes made

Hi Deanna! So very glad you asked this as this has been a main focus for us.

Originally we sourced and planned manufacturing in the USA only. What we found was that the production process was not only more complicated (too few suppliers in the US and many issues with making a complex product without experts being here in the US), but it would have also made things 3x more expensive to produce for all of you (esp. with such low quantities that we needed to order as a new company).

We have always wanted to provide a high-quality product with price in mind so that more customers can afford the product and benefit directly.

In conclusion, we are dedicated to having a strong company so that we can then direct our focus towards helping American manufacturing and creating jobs here.

Please do note - the set of 7 AFRIpads which every pair of THINX you buy funds directly is made in Uganda and that process is already creating jobs there. So we're already very happy about that!

Hope you join us @Deanna if you can :) Any other questions, just let us know.

I supported this venture through Kickstarter. I recently received my two pair (Hiphugger and Cheeky). They are very well made, soft & sexy, but as a 58 year old woman (slim & in shape) I do not care for the fit - too high on the back side. I will be sending them to my 28 year old daughter. I am confident they will be appreciated. I do not desire "granny panties" but in my opinion, these are not designed for the "mature" woman.

This is a good idea, and I love the connection with AFRIpads ~ that's a really wonderful thing to do. I couldn't help wondering, however, as I read your description of the product, how healthy it is for women to have an antimicrobial (which is probably some kind of chemical) and moisture-wicking layer right up against such a delicate area, an area to which some moisture is natural and important. We are just now beginning to see the problems that our overuse of antibiotics has caused, even beyond the well-known issue of their killing the good along with the bad.

@Kristine - not sure if you saw the answer below, so just in case hello! Here's the gist: Beth! The anti-microbial treatment is made up of a standard anti-microbial application used for garments made up of a light silver compound. No chemicals. And the production partner who provides this application for us provides this same anti-microbial application to major apparel manufacturers (many of which you'd recognize) that produce garments for workout gear (tight-fitting pants and shirts) with no adverse effects. They also do testing on every garment to make sure the levels are low enough to be effective without being harmful. The only thing to be aware of is if you have an allergy to silver.

I love supporting new businesses, and at first I was very excited about this one, but I need to know what the antibacterial layer is made from. If it uses antibacterial chemicals, I would not buy this product, and I would caution people against purchasing. Antibacterial chemicals are not only irritating, they are also hormone disruptors and environmental toxins. As a part of an underpant, that layer is in rather intimate contact with a highly absorbent area of the body. Please let me know what makes that layer antibacterial so I can make an informed decision. Thank you so much!

This product is fabulous!! Where can we purchase the reusable pads that you are sending to Africa? I am interested in purchasing those also. Your price is great. Gonna try due to menopause, these might be great with perspiring and discharge problems during this time of life. Thank you for your creation.

@Zenzele-Leandria - our partner in Uganda is called AFRIpads. They don't produce here however... but the good news is that there ARE reusable, washable pad options available. A search online should yield some good results! Good luck and we look forward to being in touch :)

I think you should make them in larger sizes, even plus sizes. I do think it is a great idea but need bigger ones.

I'd actually consider buy a pair if I had the money AND they came in my size. When I checked the sizing options, the only one that showed was XX-small. How disappointing to see that! I hope it's just because all the "normal" sizes have been sold out.

I too also wondered about, what, this new product was about. Typical Guy brain, it went downhill in a hurry, but after viewing the video I quickly saw this was for real. I shared it to Facebook and although I don't personally use you product, I was impressed with your philanthropic idea, as a Guest before me mentioned, and I had to write something. Amazing Idea and a big Bravo! A Friend Dan Wright

Hi--Great idea. Are the shapes you show the only shapes you make? How about bicycle shorts?

Love the concept and the product! Could this be made in a larger size and style for some of us not-still-bikini-size/style females?

I am going to repeat a question that did not get answered: do the girls in "need" get a panty along with the 7 washable pads you claim?
