Yoga by Numbers

Easy-to-learn yoga

Step by Step

Yoga by Numbers is a mat on a mission to make yoga simple to learn for people of all ages and abilities. It comes with a DVD called 10 Sessions to Yoga and features number targets on the mat to guide you every step of the way. Each session teaches three poses and takes only 10 minutes.

With Yoga by Numbers, you can learn 30 poses in just 10 days. Or you can take it slower. That’s the beauty of this system—it’s designed to let
you practice at your own pace. Made in the USA with the help of Jade Yoga, Yoga by Numbers mats feature an easy-to-follow number system, non-slip surface, cushioning, and durability.

Elizabeth Morrow came up with the idea for Yoga by Numbers after yoga helped her regain strength while recovering from a serious illness. A firm believer in the health benefits of yoga, Elizabeth wanted to make it a form of exercise that everyone and anyone can learn—no prior experience is necessary.

Complete the DVD and you’ll be ready to try your hands (and feet) at any beginner yoga class without feeling like a fish out of water.

Hi -- I'm Elizabeth, and I developed Yoga by Numbers to make yoga more accessible for everyone. I'm on a mission to help people realize the benefits of yoga and to go at their own pace while they learn. It doesn't have to be intimidating or difficult to learn yoga poses, and they have long lasting benefits for your health and well-being. I'm happy to answer your questions about it.

    Hello All,

Amy from The Grommet here. I'm personally very excited to see Yoga by Numbers launch today as this is a yoga mat that does more than teach yoga. Elizabeth is on a mission to create an ethically conscious, sustainable health company which provides access to fitness for all. Yoga by Numbers has also recently been selected by Mass Innovation Nights in Boston to launch at their event on March 12th. If you are in the Boston area at that time, please come down and support Elizabeth and her company.

Elizabeth will be present today to answer any questions or comments you may have.

    @Kathy

Hi Kathy, thanks so much for your comment and question!

We are in the process of producing our second DVD, Flex(Ability), which is a 90 day program with 3x per week sessions. We are also launching our Kickstarter campaign within a week to raise money to build a great library of classes and content- supporters will receive early access to content. Our first series of podcasts will be available in February, and online classes will be available by March. In the meantime, our mat comes with our first DVD, 10 Sessions to Yoga. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

    Thank you!

    Hi Bill!

I'm glad you like the concept, and I would love to explain why we think the YbN system is still a great value. First, our entire system is manufactured in the USA because we firmly believe in making sure workers are fairly paid, we adhere to sustainable environmental practices, and we promote US manufacturing jobs. But this choice comes at a cost, so we can't compete on price alone with cheaper vinyl mats made in China. Here are a few more details, just to explain what else we bring to the table:

-Our mats are 25% larger than standard mats so you have a wide, stable surface for practicing

-Manufactured in the US according to strong labor and environmental standards

-Made of natural rubber with no PVCs: this is really important because PVCs are bad for your health and bad for the environment, and the cheap vinyl mats you can get in box stores are made of this and other petrochemicals

-Our system will save you substantial money over the cost of attending classes in a studio. Studio classes usually cost between $15-20 per class, so even though you pay for our system up front, you can save a considerable amount of money over what you would pay incrementally to learn in a studio.

I hope this explains what our customers are getting when they buy the YbN system. We are really glad you like the concept.

    Thank you!

Hi Elizabeth! I really like this idea and think it sounds really neat. I am curious, what poses can we learn with the first DVD? Are they more on the beginner side or do they offer options for more advanced poses?

    Thank you!

    @Angelina

    Hi Angelina!

Great question! The first DVD is targeted at the beginner/intermediate level, but the new content we are working on will include more advanced poses and sequences.

We chose to start with foundational poses that are critical to proper alignment in more advanced poses. We believe it is very important to learn how to correctly and safely align yourself in poses using targets, rather than mimicking a general posture. That's why we chose 30 foundational poses for you to master before attempting more advanced poses.

Here are the poses covered in the first DVD: cat and cow, child's pose, plank, upward salute, standing forward bend, half forward bend, mountain pose, tree pose, chair pose, staff pose, cobra, puppy pose, downward dog, warrior 1, warrior 2, reverse warrior, triangle pose, revolved triangle, pyramid pose, wide legged standing forward bend, extended side angle, high lunge, revolved chair pose, eagle pose, happy baby, bird dog, locust pose, bridge pose, "legs on a chair", reclined twist, and savasana.

We are excited to continue producing content and will have advanced classes as soon as we successfully complete our Kickstarter campaign! :)

Please let me know if you have any other questions, and if there are particular poses you would like to see in our next release!

    Thank you!

Thanks so much! That's sounds great. I'm not a beginner anymore but want to safely work up to more advanced poses and look forward to whatever you put out. I have to build up some more upper body and core strength for inversions but seeing those someday would be fabulous. : )

My pleasure! We are really excited about our upcoming content, and you will see inversion prep for sure. It is particularly important to be strong and balanced before attempting inversions.

    Thanks for your feedback!

    Hi Elizabeth,

I LOVE this! I keep hearing that yoga is really good for you but I would rather have some privacy while I learn. I love that it is Made in the USA and I am willing to pay more for that. Love it!

    Hi Janine!

Thank you very much! We are glad you like it and we agree it is important to support responsible manufacturing policies.

We have had lots of people tell us they like being able to practice at home, both for privacy and convenience, so we hope you love using YbN.

    Thank you for your feedback!

This mat is so cool! I used it in a free workshop and I loved it. I have only done yoga a few times and I found it much easier to follow along. They even showed how the mat works when used in a regular class (the instructor taught just like it was a regular class without referring specifically to the targets) and I could use the mat the same way since I had already learned how to use it for the poses. I have been waiting for it to be available to buy so I can use it with their DVD and also in regular classes in person.

We hope you'll check out us out Kickstarter later in the week. We are really excited about our new Grommet customers and can't wait to create lots of new content for everyone!

Thank you for following our progress,
