Zumreed

Portable Speaker

Fun, Sun and Tunes

Summer fun starts and ends with music, but we all know that electronics don’t mix well with sand and water. The Drop speaker from Zumreed is the perfect solution. Just drop your iPod, iPhone or MP3 player inside the protective device, plug in the headphone cable, screw it closed, then sit back and enjoy your tunes.

The durable, water-resistant case cradles your music player, but without sacrificing style. Its teardrop-shaped form is sleek and uncomplicated, rendered in bold, modern colors. Hung from a beach umbrella or
poolside cabana, it’s an invitation for fun. Or, hang it from a hook in your bathroom and enjoy listening to music in the shower without worrying about waterlogged gear. It’s great for the kitchen, too, where it can protect your music player from errant splashes.

The Drop speaker is the brainchild of Toru Soeya, the founder of Zumreed, who wanted to unleash a little color into the world of portable audio equipment. His design aesthetic is clean and modern, with a dash of color -- just what your next summertime soirée needs.

    Your tunes are on your mobile device but are they really mobile? Can you take them in the shower? To the beach? Can you share them with your friends? The Zumreed Drop Speaker transforms your iPod, MP3 player or smart phone into a source of music that you can take anywhere.

    Can you hang this directly from your shower head or is that too much exposure to water?

    @ Kate

    You can definitely hang it in the shower... even from the shower head. The speaker holes are on the bottom. As long as you don't float the Drop Speaker in water or allow water to run into these holes, you will be fine. The way the top and bottom halves screw together, your music device inside will stay nice and dry!

    Does it have an internal rechargeable battery? If not, what kind of and how many batteries does it take? It says that it will run for 10 hours. That's great!

    @ Mary

    The Drop Speaker takes 4 AA Batteries (not included). When you unscrew the top half from the bottom, the battery compartment is easily accessed right next to the spot where you put your music player.

    Seems like it would sound muffled?

    Oh, I see. Speaker holes on the bottom. Not completely waterproof, then.

    @Alexandra Jones

    If you hang it up and it gets wet from above, no problem. But you cannot float it in water and we don't recommend sitting it in puddles. A little dampness on the bottom (like at the beach or on a ball field) is fine. Our Drop Speaker is rugged and water resistant but it is not 100% waterproof.

    I teach aqua aerobics in an indoor pool and i've been looking for something portable but with great sound. How loud is it?

    @ Angie: Thank you for your interest. Sound is quite loud.

    I see the buttons, but no mention of what they do-presume on/off; can volume be adjusted from outside, or skip a track? that would be important information to include in the description.

    @Linda - Here are the button functions from left to right:

    1. Lower volume

    2. Off

    3. On

    4. Increase volume

    There is an internal power switch to prevent any battery drain when not in use.

    There is no button to skip tracks, but I checked with a tester and while she was testing it at the park and soccer match she just set up a playlist and hit shuffle before enclosing her device (an iphone) inside the speaker.

    Hi Linda,

    Good question and sorry we missed that in the descriptive copy. There are four buttons on the outside of the Drop Speaker. The buttons on the far left and far right adjust the volume of the Drop Speaker amplifier softer and louder. The two in the middle turn the amplifier on the Drop Speaker Off and On. The exterior buttons control the Drop Speaker but do not control the music player inside. I hope this helps.

    This works w/all smartphones? I have a Blackberry Bold vs iPhone

    @Jacqui

    Hi Jacqui,

    The Drop Speaker works with any device that has a 3.5mm headphone jack (standard earphone jack). The only question is whether your Blackberry will fit into the slot where we show the iPhone. An iPhone 4 or 4S fits comfortably and there is a foam pad to allow for other sized devices. I believe your Blackberry will fit.

    Can this speaker fold or collapse so it would fit in a backpack or small suitcase for travelling

    @ debbie the size is approximately 132 Diameter x H of 190mm, so it could probably fit in a reasonable sized backpack or a small suitcase, but it is made of ABS plastic so it does not collapse.
