Wear Your Child's Art

Sometimes we find Grommets, and sometimes they find us! Daily Grommet reader Ann Sadow, owner of the Flora Style boutique, pointed us towards KiDoodles, and it was love at first sight. Metalsmith Joy Copanezos found a new focus when her children started drawing the wonderful artwork that small children do. How better to preserve those quirky creations than to turn them into keepsake jewelry? KiDoodles was born, and now everyone can have a handcrafted, one-of-a-kind piece based upon their own beloved child’s imagination. The possibilities are nearly limitless, and Joy can forge up to three separate figures per piece. Simply submit your child’s drawing (any size, any medium, actual paper or a scan); choose from 14k gold or silver; select the product (earrings, pendant, pin, or tie tac); and in just a few weeks you’ll have your custom jewelry delivered in a gift box, ready for giving. (Please allow extra time in May or December.)

I am excited to have KiDoodles featured on Daily Grommet today! I take your child’s artwork and turn it into handcrafted sterling silver or 14k gold jewelry as a charm, tie tac, necklace, pin or pair of earrings. When I had children, I saw how truly wonderful their drawings were and sought to preserve them in a wearable fashion. The drawings that come to me all have a story and all are precious. I'm having a lot of fun making KiDoodles-- jewelry as unique as the child who designs it. I look forward to reading your comments and answering your questions.

Hi Joy - These are so fun! I've got such a wild collection of pictures from my kids that it would be tough to pick just one. I'm definitely thinking of a mother's day gift to myself - but really, are there any restrictions on the type of artwork? Do you prefer color? More detail? And would you advise based on the art I send what might be best, or do I need to decide ahead whether to do earrings, a pin, a necklace ...?

Send me several, and I'll help you choose. No restrictions on artwork, but keep in mind how small it's going to be as jewelry. If it won't work, I'll know and tell you. Thanks!

So....I have to tell everyone that Joy also has great customer service. After Joanne surprised me with the Grommet pin in the video, I wore it for three straight days, on a weekend getaway. When I got home I was so upset to see that my beautiful pin had gone missing. I haven't even had the heart to tell Joanne! But I emailed Joy with my tale of woe. She promptly replaced it--I hear that the package is waiting for me at home. Phew.....now Joanne knows why I have dodged her for two weeks. :) Thanks Joy! Thanks Joanne!

I love, love, love the idea of charms on a bracelet and adding to it over the years. That is so incredibly precious!

Hi Joy, We love, loved to see you and your wonderful art on grommet. So happy that Mom alerted us. Sadly, all of our "kids/grandkids" are well beyond the fun art work stage. They are now into the serious art stuff. Good luck to you and how are the kids doing?? Hope all is well. We'll be in touch. Hugs to you. Tom and Mare
