Plant a Tree

Good news: Yes, you can do something about global warming! And it’s surprisingly simple. Just plant a tree. Besides providing beautiful foliage and cooling shade, trees help trap ozone layer-depleting CO2 emissions, minimizing the effects of climate change. Planting is a cinch with Mokugift. You don’t have to dig deep into your pockets or even lift a shovel. And it’s as easy as sending an e-card. For just $1 per tree, Mokugift will plant a tree in the country of your choice. (Trees are planted in areas where they’re most beneficial to the environment, like Burundi, Nicaragua and India.) Want to inspire others to do the same? Plant a tree in a friend’s name and Mokugift will notify the recipient and invite him or her to also plant a tree. Mokugift is a partner of the United Nations Environment Programme’s Billion Tree Campaign, whose goal is to plant seven billion trees. What’s stopping you?

This is great. Can I choose what type of tree to plant?

    Hi jp,

Right now you can only choose the country. We are considering allowing people to choose the type of tree, but the accounting and monitoring gets very complex. The tree planting programs like to keep it simple and focused. Sometimes the needs of the end sites change and we wouldn't want our tree species allocation to throw off their need for adapt to changes in local needs. We are considering a few specific species options for special occasions, but that would be a limited offer that we would base on a conservative estimate of the projected plantings for those species.

    Thanks,

    Hans

You can also plant a tree for free via these two promotions:

http://bit.ly/15A4rn (for parents) http://www.kajeet.com/reuse (for parents getting new cell phone)

We have noticed that parenting related companies associate with the positive investment in the future that trees represent.

@Amy, check this link out http://www.mokugift.com/static/tree_gift about planting a tree as a gift. They even have a great video to show you. It's sort of like sending an e-card to a friend. Just follow the steps (you'll need your friend's email address), and Mokugift will email them a message with this wonderful surprise.

Feel free to sign up and use our inspiration spreading tools. When you use those tools, you can see who you have inspired to plant a tree and how many they have planted. You also get to plant trees for free when you inspire friends to plant trees. http://www.mokugift.com/static/inspire

I like to gift my friends but spending even $1.00 on "vitual gifts" isn't for me. Is there a mokugift AP in facebook?

Hi Joan, you aren't spending the $1 on a virtual gift. That $1 is for the real tree. The virtual gift is just a representation of the real tree.

Yes, we have a facebook app, but the app is under construction because facebook has changed their platform and it is hard for us to keep up. The trees on the facebook app are $1/tree also. http://apps.facebook.com/mokugift/

One of our challenges is competing with frivolous, meaningless gifts on facebook. There are some free applications on facebook that claim to be envionmental, but do not create a net benefit to our planet. Daily Grommet's audience understands that we are empowering people to easily do something meaningful for less than the price of a Starbucks coffee. Some people can't afford a cup of coffee and we understand that. So we made it easy for them to plant a tree for free when they inspire their friends to plant a tree: http://www.mokugift.com/islands/inspire_tools/arealtree

If $1 is too expensive to plant a real tree, then you can find 5 minutes to inspire a few friends.

I love this... is there a way to send trees to multiple friends but only make one Amazon payment? I tried this but can't seem to get it to work... It will let me plant more than 1 tree, however I cannot enter more than 1 person per transaction please advise :)

    Hi Kim,

On the plant tree form there is a link in grey that says "send trees to more than one recipients". It is right under where the recipient email goes. That takes you to a page to send to 5 people. If you are going to do a bulk send of more than 5, then there is a link on that page to "send trees to more than 5 recipients".

    I hope that helps.
