Hands-Free Flashlight

Bend, Twist, Illuminate

Have you ever put a flashlight in your mouth so you could use both hands to fix something in a dark corner? Or asked a three-year-old to hold a flashlight steady while you tried to make a fix? The GorillaTorch flashlight from Joby can put an end to that. Its clever design combines an LED light source with three strong magnetic feet and flexible legs that you can bend and twist to secure the light to a tree branch, bed post or under the hood of your car.

A rubberized ring and foot grips help hold the GorillaTorch steady and also prevent it from scratching paint or damaging any surfaces. The flexible leg design showcases the inventiveness of Joby founder JoeBen Bevirt, whose passion for engineering has inspired him to do all kinds of cool things, like build robots that help cancer researchers and explore renewable energy sources.

One of the things we like best about GorillaTorch is its dimmer feature, which lets you control the level of brightness depending on the task at hand. You may want all the light you can get if you’re working under the hood of a car, for example, or less light if you’re reading in bed. If you straighten out the legs, GorillaTorch also works like a conventional handheld flashlight. For camping, home repairs, nighttime reading, flashlight tag or maybe even a walk in the jungle, the GorillaTorch flashlight puts you in control. Here, there and everywhere you need light, GorillaTorch delivers.

Grommet Launch Conversation

We’re excited that Daily Grommet is featuring the GorillaTorch, the world’s most adaptable hands-free flashlight. I'm the Brand Manager for this product and love talking about its amazing features and versatility. You may already be familiar with our flexible Gorillapod camera tripod reviewed earlier by the Daily Grommet team. The GorillaTorch leverages the same patented ball-and-socket construction for flexible, wrappable legs, and we’ve added magnetic feet for increased adaptability, allowing you to position the GorillaTorch anywhere to cast an intense, focused beam of light on any target. The 100 lumen ultra-bright LED lamp on an adjustable dimmer makes it versatile for use as a powerful spot or delicate nightlight, and the super long battery life (up to 80 hours!) ensures that it’ll be there for you when you need it. Pop it under the car-hood when checking the engine, attach it to the bedpost for lights-out reading, wrap it around a tree-branch to illuminate your campsite - or straighten the legs and use it as a handheld while walking the dog. The possibilities are endless!

    Thank you.

Yvonne, thank you for letting us know about your problem with the audio. Aside from the audio control on your system, there is an audio control on the player itself. Click on the icon of the speaker and it should let you adjust the volume. If this doesn't work or if anyone else is having audio problems, please let us know!

It's great that they have found different uses for their patented ball and socket construction.

This is very exciting! I love, love, love my Gorillapod. I even use the SLR "pro" Gorillapod with my heavy camera and good lenses. It works perfectly. I'll have to get one of these torches.

Thanks for the comments! This flashlight really can be used by everyone, just about everywhere. Personally I keep three of these on hand - one in the car for emergencies, one on the fridge for power outages/late night snack raids/nighttime dog walks - and my daughter loves her very special bedpost 'reading light'!

Hi! Are the batteries easily replaced and are they expensive? I would like to give 3 of these for gifts.

I'm interested in the Gorillatorch but would like info about batteries and LED bulb it uses - are replacements easy to find? How expensive?

@Janet - It takes 3 AA batteries which are included. I don't have quick information about replacements bulb but will inquire and add it to this post. Thanks!

@Janet - No one should ever need a replacement bulb for the Gorillatorch. CREE LEDs have a life longer than our lives! There is no way to open the torch and change the bulb. The only way the bulb should ever fail is if someone were to drop the torch from ridiculously high heights. We do drop testing to 30ft, and there should be no breakage at that level.

If anything were to happen to the torch within a year of purchase (i.e. the bulb were to fail), we’d be happy to replace the unit.

I received this for Christmas and have already put it to good use. It is PERFECT for when you need to work under the hood of the car, like refilling windshield washer fluid. The light magnets in the light attach to the underside of the hood, and you can then twist the light to shine exactly where the light is needed. Brilliant.

@DJP - I agree those magnetic feet are a compelling feature on this light - expanding how many places it can give you hands free light! The video shows this feature beautifully - anyone who skipped the video go back and play it!
