DNA 11

The Pioneers of DNA Art

From Life Comes Art

DNA is the stuff of biomedical miracles and courtroom drama, right? Think again. Your own DNA or a loved one’s (even a pet) can be the subject of a vibrant, contemporary piece of artwork hanging on your living room wall or standing on your mantel.

Friends and co-conspirators Adrian Salamunovic and Nazim Ahmed combined their loves of art, design and science into DNA 11, a company that turns DNA into uniquely personal art. Getting one of these biological landscapes couldn’t be easier. DNA 11 provides a kit for
collecting DNA, which requires only a simple swab of the inside of your cheek. Then all you have to do is pick the color, size and frame you’d like. For extra personal touches, you can add a signature to your DNA portrait and, with a new option, isolate genes that identify four human characteristics: brain, hair, love and sport.

Behind the scenes, DNA 11 has contracted with an FDA-certified lab for the genetic work. It then takes your genetic code and creates the artwork to your specifications in a state-of-the-art printing facility at the DNA 11 studios. The process, from swab to delivery, takes from four to six weeks. You can’t get art that’s more authentic or original than this.

I'm glad to be here today to have the chance to introduce you to my world, a world where science and art collide in the most arresting and personal way. Our DNA portraits are the most personal art creations you will find. They make a statement as to who you are,and that's what good art is all about. I am looking forward to hearing your comments and answering any questions you may have.

This is a very cool find. Once you have your portrait done, are there areas that you can point to and say "see that blip there....that's my predisposition to music and that right there is why I skip the donuts in the lunchroom." I'm sure a scientist could give a full work up, but are there generalities that a lay person could learn to read? The funny thing -- this is a picture of you from the day you're born to the day you die, through all the bad haircuts and crazy clothing styles your DNA is always a true picture of you!

Hey Katherine, that's a great question! We don't offer anything quite that detailed, we do have something called GenePak. This Pak will isolated your Hair, your Brain and your Sport gene. The best part about this is it is a free option with each portrait.

And it is so true about the one picture that does not show your awkward stages.

Jules, I really love this Grommet - So cool. Also a very nice touch to see the Ireland flag for European shipments on the DNA site - I assume it changes to each country depending on my user url - a very nice personal touch. I will be buying one of these as a Christmas present..

I'm thinking this would be a cool family portrait holiday card. We like to send unusual family pictures. Can you make them that small?

Terri - that is a great idea! Adrian will stop back to let you know if that's something that they can do/facilitate.

Teri- Great idea. We have actually had someone do this for their business cards. We could make a custom family portrait for your holiday cards. Contact us directly for a custom custom digital file.
