Goat Milk's Beauty Secret

Legend has it Cleopatra bathed in goat’s milk. We can understand why, now that we’ve experienced firsthand the nourishing, moisturizing power of goat’s milk and Chivas Skin Care. Donna and Lauren Johanson of Chivas Skin Care raise French Alpine goats on their small farm in Camarillo, CA. This mother-daughter duo hand-milks the goats and uses the fresh milk — along with herbs from their garden, shea butter and natural oils — to make these incredible skin care products. Why is goat milk so important? It’s packed with vitamins A, B, C and D as well as essential minerals. It’s very gentle because it has a pH level that is close to that of our own skin, making it ideal for people with sensitive skin. It’s not just the goat milk that sets apart these products. Donna and Lauren have created a sumptuous array of scents, each one familiar and exotic at the same time. Their original scent is made with a blend of peppermint, lavender and citrus oils, while Orange Spice smells like pumpkin pie with its blend of orange, cinnamon and clove. Patchouli Cedarwood is made with hemp seed oil to help heal dry skin. (Each of these soaps is available in a three-bar set.) If you’re having trouble choosing, the starter kit lets you try some of Chivas’ bestselling items, including its original soap, lip balm and Sweet Nothings (a light floral scent) facial cream and bath salts. And if you really want to take gift-giving to the next level, you can give the gift of a goat. We heard about this idea from Daily Grommet reader Julia Elmer, who says it’s one of her favorite gifts. Chivas Skin Care has partnered with The Nomad Foundation to donate a herd of goats to the Tuareg people of Niger. If you purchase this option, one goat will be donated in the recipient’s name. The recipient receives a gorgeous gift box with a bar of soap and a card that explains the donation. For the person who seems to have everything, it’s an unforgettable and heartwarming gift.

    Hi Valyri!

The Nomad Foundation is a non-profit organization based in Ojai, California that has been working in Niger for 10 years to help support the nomadic Tuareg tribe. The organization focuses on issues of water, food, education, health & work.

Chivas Skin Care specifically works with them to help donate goats to the tribe. It's very much so the philosophy that if you donate a goat, you eventually feed a village. The foundation also donates sheep, cows, donkeys & camels.

I am happy to answer any other specific questions you might have. Or you can learn more about and see lots of good pictures on their website at: http://nomadfoundation.org/.

Both the product and the values should be something to be admired by all skincare companies.
