New Life For Old Gift Cards

Gift cards are supposed to make it easy to choose something you really like, but it doesn’t always work out that way. How many times have you wound up with a gift card from a toy store when you’d rather be shopping for clothes? What if you just don’t like anything at the store? What good is a gift card to a specialty store that’s nowhere near where you live? Billions of dollars are tied up in unredeemed gift cards every year. It’s a huge waste of money at a time when many of us are carefully watching our wallets. But we’ve found a convenient solution, thanks to Tina Henson. When Tina heard about a friend who couldn’t use a $1,000 gift card, she had the idea to create a company that lets people trade in their unused gift cards for cash or a different card. Her venture is called Plastic Jungle, and it couldn’t be easier to use. Simply go online and enter in your gift card details. Plastic Jungle will offer a cheque for up to 90% of the verified card balance. Or, you can exchange your unwanted or partially used gift cards for an Amazon gift card, or donate them for the benefit of your favorite nonprofit organization. You have to mail in your gift card to redeem the value, but Plastic Jungle provides a printable shipping label (at no cost to you) to make it easy. When we tried out the service, Plastic Jungle sent us a check in less than two weeks. It was easy, thrifty and rewarding… the best kind of shopping!

...the time when you look at all those gift cards you've received over the holidays with mixed emotions. Some of the gift cards, you're heading out to spend today. Some, you make plans to use this weekend. Some, you quietly tuck away in your sock drawer, never to be heard from again.

Wait... take them back out and cash them in on Plastic Jungle (the best way to sell, buy, exchange, or donate gift cards on the Internet). We pay up to 90% for your unwanted gift cards! You can also exchange them for purchasing power at stores like Amazon.com. Or, turn them into the ultimate gift for a charity you care about.

While you're at it, find gift cards from your favorite brands at discounts up to 30% off (we'll ship them to you for free). Add this to post-holiday sales, promotions, and coupons for even bigger savings. Why would you ever pay full price again?

And, all transactions on Plastic Jungle are guaranteed! Plus, we'll help you replace your gift cards in case they are ever lost or damaged.

We are thrilled that the Daily Grommet has elected to feature Plastic Jungle today. Looking forward to your thoughts, questions, and creative money-saving tips!

This is a brilliant idea. I'd not heard of anything like this before. Wish I knew of this before I had a bunch of cards become useless when retailers went out of business in the last couple of years!

I think I've been guilty of sending an out-of-state relative a gift card for a restaurant that wasn't convenient to them! It didn't occur to me that a restaurant that was common here, wasn't as common there. This is a great service.
