Double-Duty Kitchenware

We can’t get enough of the chic kitchenware from Joseph Joseph. Every item we’ve tested has that rare combination of good looks, clever functionality and affordability. Gadget gurus (and twins) Antony and Richard Joseph founded the British company, which we first heard about from Daily Grommet reader Deb Pine. We featured their ingenious hinged chopping board and adjustable rolling pin back in December. Now we’ve got three more gems to share, and they’re all time savers. The minimalist Unitool does the work of five utensils. It’s a spoon with both a slotted and solid surface, and it can be used as a flipper, serrated cutting tool and spatula. Just one Unitool can help you de-clutter your utensil drawer. And when you need freshly squeezed juice, the Citrus Catcher doubles as a citrus reamer and strainer. It has a flexible collar that catches pulp and seeds but lets the juice drain through. Lastly, the new Scoop Colander lets you drain and scoop food straight from the oven or out of the pan. It’s tough enough to withstand boiling water or hot oil, so it’s ideal for straining pasta and fried food. Antony and Richard definitely have a knack for putting a fresh spin on even the most basic kitchen products. We can’t wait to see what they do next.

I tested these products and I have to say, I was really trying hard to find something wrong with them! The Jo Jo Bros nail it every time. These tools are very nice looking, stylish, extremely well-made, functional, low-maintenance and really affordable. (Sounds like a great boyfriend!) They work. Their team is amazing as well... very nice people to work with. Hmmm... there must be something wrong with you guys....

Sara you are so funny. Joseph Joseph could become slang for Mr. Right as in "he's so Joseph Joseph".

There's a popular decluttering technique where you put all of your kitchen utensils away and only give them a home when you bring them out to use them. I have a feeling the unitool would be the first one out and would keep many other utensils banished in deep storage!

Many utensils have sought refuge with their union representative because of the unitool. I've seen picket lines outside kitchens in at least 3 continents. Kitchen Art and revolution are synonymous with Joseph Joseph.

So we will spread those picket lines to North America now. We're joining the revolution, Comrade Michael. It's all part of the Citizen Commerce dream.

Great concepts! I wanted to know if your kitchen utensils are BPA & Phthalate free? That is important to me knowing they would be used with hot foods.

Uncanny--I was just thinking last week that someone needs to invent a better citrus reamer! I couldn't order this fast enough.

Anne, I can't tell you how often we hear that kind of thing. That we either find a solution a person was looking for, or a product that does something no one thought could be done. I love the serendipity of your experience, and thanks for sharing it. You will the love the Citrus Reamer/Pip Catcher. (I miss saying "pip" from when I lived in Ireland.)
