Charlie's Soap
Laundry Soap

Good, Clean Fun

Grommet Launch Conversation
-
34 years ago, Charlie Senior started a little oil company and hired his son Butch. When Dad took over 7 years after that, whether he wanted it or not, he became Charlie. Almost overnight, the cleaner became a sensation in the textile circles in our tiny little town. It soon became known as Charlie's Soap, and a legend was born.
Almost 20 years later, I, Taylor, came back home and decided to help run the family business. We officially changed the company and product names to Charlie's Soap to honor Charlie Sr. and launched www.charliesoap.com. 10 years later you can find Charlie's Soap in all 50 states and several countries. I think we're going to be okay. It's only a matter of time before I shed the name "Taylor" and become the next "Charlie." -
This looks great, how does this work for High Efficiency machines?
-
The dose for a full load of clothes in a regular machine is just 1 tablespoon, that that full dose will dissolve completely in just 1 cup of cold water. The upshot is that it's perfectly safe for use in HE machines. If your machines says Liquid-Only, just toss the Powder in the front door and you'll be perfectly fine.
-
Taylor - we have switched to using a cold water formulation of liquid detergent to save on our water heating costs. I'm thrilled to find out that Charlie's Soap dissolves in cold water so we can continue this practice. I'm sold!!
-
Charlie's Soap was an eye opener to me when I tested the laundry powder and learned how well it cleaned -- and left my clothes so fresh, but with nothing left behind. Plus it is biodegradable, good for the earth, good for the people who use it. -- Thank you so much to the Charlies and the all people who make it happen down in NC. One of my all time favorite American entrepreneur stories.

I've been using CharlieSoap for 3 years, my daughters use it after I gave them some as a Christmas gift. I wouldn't clean with anything else! Safe for my grandbabies, and for the Earth? What more could you ask for! And their customer service team really rocks!
-
I've gone through my two bags and just ordered 2 more. (Three teenage boys means a lot of clothes to be done each day.) The soap proved to be exactly as advertised. Works great in cold water, too.
-
@DJP It's always great to hear from a satisfied Grommet customer! Having a tween and teen myself, I can just imagine the dirty laundry that piles up! Thanks for stopping by and sharing.
-
We continue to love this. It is amazing how a little bit of powder works so well, and in cold water. Just ordered some more.
-
@DJP - the true test of a great product is if you are still using it months after you first try it! This fits that criteria, thank you for letting us know!
-
We've been using Charlies for about 9 months... started cloth diapering and switched to using it on everything. It works on literally everything - and our messy toddler has yet to create a stain Charlie's can't eliminate with some elbow grease and time.
-
@Nicole: That's great to hear. Thank you for stopping back with your experience with this product.
-
When using this product, is it still necessary or advantageous to use dryer balls or sheets when drying clothes?
-
@Debbie: Dryer balls would be a great compliment to this product. They reduce dry times, reduce static and soften without the chemicals found in a dryer sheet. We featured BaaLLS wool dryer balls here.

i've heard nothing but stellar reviews about CS and i'm about to make my first charlie's purchase....i went to the company's website - what are the differences (benefits) between the powder and liquid detergent ? also is the laundry pre-treater the same thing as the all purpose cleaner ? and what about the indoor/outdoor cleaner ? i'm a bit confused by the different products...thanks !
-
@Jackie: We have selected our favorite products to feature and sell here at Daily Grommet, the powder detergent and the all-purpose cleaner. I will send you some contact information for the company so you can ask them about their other products.
