Unconventional Nails

When Jennifer Artur couldn’t find the nail polish colors she wanted, she teamed with her husband Tony and created her own edgy palette… with a healthy twist. Jennifer and Tony eliminated three significant ingredients commonly found in nail polish: Toluene, which is used as a solvent; Formaldehyde, a preservative that hardens nails; and Dibutyl Phthalate, a plasticizer that makes polish flexible. You won’t find any of these harsh chemicals in their soy-based nail lacquers or their citrus-infused polish remover. What you will find are rockin’ colors with names like Hot Rod, Venom and Shroom. You can paint on Vexed if you have a hankering for a chocolaty topcoat, then switch it up for the Blues if you’re in the mood for something more electric. It’s easy to see the inspiration for these colors when you meet the couple behind the company, called A Beautiful Life. Jennifer is a makeup artist, musician and roller derby gal. Tony is a musician, former professional chef and onetime owner of a doo-wop motel in New Jersey. And when they’re not taking care of their kids or mixing the next great nail color, Jennifer and Anthony play in an ’80s heavy-metal revival band, Coverboy. A Beautiful Life is not your mother’s conservative, chemical-laden lacquer, nor your daughter’s rainbow-hued play polish. But every generation can find something to love about this safe, cool and refreshingly unconventional collection.

We are Jennifer and Tony, the husband and wife team behind A Beautiful Life nail polish and removers. We were able to take our knowledge and experience in the luxury beauty biz and filter it through our rock and roll sensibility to create a superior line of nail polish products. We started by eliminating the toxic ingredients and ended by adding rockin' colors that you won’t find anywhere else. We think you’re going to love the end result; let us know what you think. We’re here to answer any questions you have.

Tony - Your part in the video cracked me up, Heavy Metal and Show Tunes, you have diverse tastes.

So, would manicurists still need to wear those masks if they were using your products? It's always unnerving to walk into an environment where everyone but me is wearing a mask!

    Hi Katherine,

Typically manicurists use the masks while filing (don't wanna inhale toenail clippings!) or using the glue for decorative tips. If you went in for a polish change with our products, the tech wouldn't need to wear a mask..

Hi..Jennifer also LOVES Rockstar, and for myself, on the (ahem)rare occasions I would need nail polish, it would most likely be Noir...however for the ladies I really love Vexed!

One thing we should say is that even though we are a couple of kooks, we want to offer products that are accessible to all of our customers. We have 12 great colors because we wanted to offer a focused collection, and we will expand it slowly as time goes on. I think the performance, colors, and formulation of ABL Nails have an appeal that will cut across demographic lines.
