Online Math Skills & Tutorial

Stop the Summer Slide

Summer is the time for kids to cut loose and enjoy life outside the classroom. But (there’s always a catch) we don’t want everything our kids learned during the academic year to melt away like a snow cone on pavement.

TenMarks was created to help students refine and advance their math skills, and the company offers a 12-week summer “Step-Up” program for practicing math. Founders Andrew Joseph (right) and Rohit Agarwal were looking for a way to supplement kids’ classroom instruction. Their solution is an online service
that creates a personalized math curriculum, tailored to each student’s ability and grade level. One of the things we like best about TenMarks is its Web interface. It’s intuitive and engaging, so students can practice and learn math in an environment that’s comfortable and motivating. We also like the hints and videos that offer extra help when a student is stumped by a worksheet problem. Students can do the work at their own pace, and TenMarks keeps parents informed with weekly progress reports.

We heard about TenMarks from Jill Preotle, a friend of Daily Grommet and private equity investor who knows a thing or two about numbers. TenMarks is a convenient, helpful and affordable way for kids to keep sharpening their math skills. It all adds up.

I'm happy that the Daily Grommet team has chosen to feature TenMarks's Summer Math Program as today's Grommet. We're coming to the end of the school year, and many of us are looking at summer learning options for our kids. TenMarks has designed 20 summer math programs for students from Grades 3-10 - I am sure there's one suited for your child. The programs are all online, and help kids refresh the core math concepts from the past year, as well as setup a great foundation for the year ahead - using worksheets and video lessons.

Check the summer programs out and send me any questions or feedback you may have. I love hearing from families and would love to answer your questions!

My two daughters have been using Tenmarks now for a couple of months. It's exactly the kind of practice and math "confidence booster" we were looking for! It's one of the only things we don't have to remind them to do ;).

I love that you can set up incentives! My son loves to earn rewards and is always more motivated when they are included.

I wanted to mention that clicking on the "Buy it Now" button will bring you to the TenMarks website where you can explore further before deciding whether or not it is right for your children!

At the early end, is this for kids going into third grade or just leaving third grade?

@Barbara great to hear that TenMarks has been helped your daughters with their math confidence. This is exactly the type of experience we are striving for, thanks for the feedback!

Hi there - this looks like a great tool for my kids. I went to sign up and it only had space for one child's name/grade ect. I have two children who would be using this - how is this addressed? Thanks

@Kristen, thanks for the feedback. You can sign up both kids for sure - one at a time. Once you're done with the first, you'll be able to log out, and register the second one. It'll recognize your email address, and ask you for the password (emailed to you) to add the second child to the same parent account.

We've used TenMarks in the past and value the flexibility TenMark's online format provides our family - -the kids can work on their math skills when they want and when it fits into our busy family schedule. We are thrilled TenMarks is offering a summer program! Way to go - and we'll be signing up.

I am an adult who has always been horrible at math. I would like to brush up on or even revisit the math skills that I know I have forgotten or never even learned properly. Are adults allowed to use this program?

@Amy, Absolutely, we have adults that use the site to refresh and extend their own math knowledge.

@Amy - Great question, I was always fine at math, but I still struggle remembering all the specifics to help my son with his homework. It's amazing what we forget. He is learning things in a different way than I remember, too!

    Hello Andrew;

What are your thoughts on the program (interface, incentives, etc) for a younger child (7 in Aug) who is working and succeeding at appx 4th grade+ math?

He enjoys working and playing on the computer, and he *loves* math in general. But, he is still a little guy and I'd not want him overfaced. What do you think?

    Thanks! Catherine

My 10 year old daughter recently asked if we could get her a math tutor to help her brush up on concepts. That would be difficult to fit into our busy schedule - but your online program sounds perfect! I am going to sign her up.

@Catherine, glad to hear your "little guy" is doing so well. If he is currently doing ~4th grade level math, I would suggest that you have him take our assessment at a 4th grade level and the system will make recommendations for a customized program. Or choose the 4th grade Math Facts and Number Operations program.

Based on input from our education advisers, our summer program assigns 3 interactive worksheets a week, which should be manageable for him. Also you can stop what you are doing on TenMarks at any time and pick up when you are ready.

Re: incentives it really depends on what is appropriate for your family. Incentives are optional, and can be anything from a toy, to a pizza party or a day doing something special with Mom and/or Dad.

Also as we mention on our site, if TenMarks is not a fit for you we have a 100% money back guarantee.

TenMarks has been great for my kids throughout the school year, and continuing for the summer program makes perfect sense. It couldn't be more convenient -and they really like it. Thanks for the great idea!

My older son in third grade has been using this for the past few months and really likes it. His younger sister wants to know when she can do it too. His math skills have stepped up that extra level and overall it has given him added confidence.

TenMarks is a great program - it is a fun and creative approach to math that works. The follow-up is great, too, you get an email letting you know the worksheets your child needs to work on...love it.
