Safe and Sound Cycling

Music and bicycling are two passions that never mixed well, until now. Many cyclists would love to listen to music, but it’s not safe to use headphones while riding outdoors (it’s even illegal in some states). CycleSound is a portable speaker system that fits right under the seat of your bike, so you can safely listen to tunes while spinning your wheels. The inventor is Del Rusher (left), who used to pull a wagon with a boom box behind his bike while he pedaled across Iowa during the annual seven-day RAGBRAI event. Del came up with the idea for CycleSound, then teamed with an automotive stereo expert to fine-tune the details. The challenge was creating a compact, lightweight speaker system that could deliver clear, quality sound to riders and withstand the rugged outdoors. When Del perfected the design, his longtime friend, (and father of Daily Grommet discovery team member Wendy) Pete Wirtz, told us about CycleSound’s debut. CycleSound is battery-operated and works with your own music player. Just plug in your audio player, zip it into the water-resistant pouch, and get ready to ride. The CycleSound experience combines the thrill of outdoor cycling while safely listening to your favorite tunes. And that’s music to our ears.

I am delighted to have CycleSound featured today on the Daily

Grommet. The beauty of CycleSound is the quality of sound it produces at the

highest volume level with no distortion. With CycleSound you instantly become

the Pied Piper of music for your cycling friends. After many tests and

prototypes, CycleSound was born to provide fun, excitement and safety for

cyclists without the dangerous use of earphones. Every inch of CycleSound was

designed by me and hand assembled by me to ensure the quality of each unit

produced. I am available to answer any questions you may have today.

This is one of those stories about someone following their idea through and creating a compelling product from just an idea. Del's professional career was in publishing and business, but his passion was cycling -- and RAGBRAI. To take your passion and follow your dreams takes perseverance and belief. And I'm sure there were many prototypes and people who doubted the concept along the way. Del -- Thanks for bringing Cycle Sound to life.

Music and movement just go together, this is a great product!

I live in Chicago, and commute to work by bike year round. I've used Del's CycleSound system for several years now, and love it. Not only does it provide great sound, it takes all kind of abuse, and has kept working in all the weather that Chicago can throw at it (even in the winter). I particularly like how easily it mounts in different areas, and have found that I prefer mounting it on my handlebar stem.

I love being able to listen to music on my way to work, and (since I am riding in Chicago traffic) love that, with the CycleSound, I can still hear what is happening around me while listening to music.

Very nice product, Del, and great service to boot.

I absolutely love my CycleSound and will never be able to bike without music again. Whether I ride alone or with a group of people this system is a complete hit! The quality of sound that the CycleSound provides is outstanding. It is like rolling down the highway in your car with the stereo cranked. I receive several thumbs up regarding the CycleSound when I am out on a bike trails. My sister was visiting from North Carolina and fell in love with the compact, easy to use system, with amazing sound. She ordered one immediately!Ragbrai would not be the same without music years ago my team member carried a 25lb system on the back of his bike...Yikes! This system is so light you don't even know it is on your bike.

I have used my cyclesound system for four years now--year round. A very ruggard system with great sound quality that has logged at least 20 thousand miles with me in all kinds of conditions from the Perry, Iowa February brrr ride at -10 degrees to riding in the rain storms in the Peaks of Colorado. All one needs is a plastic bag from any convenience store and the product plays on in any thunderstorm . Del's company is very good about making repairs and supporting this quality product in a very prompt fashion. I give it an A++. A very good value and excellent support should something break.

The sound quality is good and plenty loud enough for me. Customer Support is second to none. I just completed the 5 Boro Bike Tour in NYC and I had my CycleSound playing music all the way (6.5hrs!). I really am extremely satisfied with this purchase.
