Accessories for the Oenophile

What do you get when you give an already speedy bunny an electric boost? Super cork-pulling powers. Metrokane, maker of the revolutionary Rabbit corkscrew, has some new gadgets in its warren, including an automatic corkscrew and a sleek bottle-top wine aerator. The Electric Rabbit takes the cork from a bottle easily and without leaving behind any cork crumbs. A spiral corkscrew is recessed within the device’s casing, so it locks onto the bottle and, with just the push of a button, the cork is pulled straight out. An illuminated display tells you how many more bottles can be opened before the battery needs recharging. To make sure tasting wine is as enjoyable as possible, the Rabbit Aerating Pourer aerates red wine (letting it breathe) as it is poured. Just place the device in the top of an open bottle of wine and watch the wine swirl through before reaching the glass, adding air to improve the flavor and bouquet. The founder of Metrokane is Riki Kane (shown with Miki, the company mascot), whose first foray into housewares was a reinvention of the manual citrus juicer. Her formula of modern design plus clever functionality keeps raising the bar, one innovative gadget at a time. We’ll drink to that!

We have a casual winetasting group with some friends and decanting each bottle of the red wine in order to aerate it is a bother. I really like the idea of this aerater that you can pour with. We have used our manual Rabbit corkscrew for years. The electric version looks like fun! Thanks.

Mark - I think everyone needs a casual winetasting group. That sounds very nice! My problem is remembering which wines I prefer and the qualities of those wines to be able to find others.

My wife enjoys a glass of wine in the evening and the brand that she likes now uses one of those new rubber(not cork)stoppers. I suspect that this electric opener would be helpful to me. Thanks

@George - thanks for commenting. We had good success with rubber and cork stoppers. The Rabbit drills quite easily through both materials. One hint though, you need to hover squarely over the neck of the bottle and give the machine time to drill down and pull back...it takes about 7 seconds.

@George, I tested the Electric Rabbit corkscrew on both natural cork wine bottles and rubberized cork wine bottles and it worked on both. (Yes, my job is tough!) Remember to keep the switch on until the spiral stops. Enjoy!

I like aerating red wine but don't often practice this because it's inconvenient. A good idea if it works.

I'm sorry I didn't see this comment earlier. I wanted to let Danielle know that she can buy the Metrokane locally at Target, and also online at Amazon.com — if she'd still like to support this product and give it to someone in the new year!

My son purchased the Aerator Pourer for me for Christmas. I will never pour another glass of red wine (at home) without it again. It truly does make a difference! Saving to purchase the Electric Rabbit Corkscrew for me!

@Jill Coloske: Thanks for stopping by to share your experience. We're delighted that when you treat yourself to fine wine, you can enjoy the full "ambrosia" experience using the Aerator Pourer. Mother's Day will be here soon, so perhaps your son will be happy to get a hint of the complimentary gift, Electric Rabbit Corkscrew, (to the Pourer) he can get you ;0)
