Mean & Wroughten

Cribbage Set

Crib Notes

Years ago, my then boyfriend, now husband taught me how to play cribbage, his family’s go-to card game. The game seemed very foreign to me at first (my family was more of a gin rummy crowd), but I quickly learned the thrill of making 15s, scoring double runs, and receiving a good kitty. Of course, all that scoring math made my head hurt a little, so I also grew to appreciate the helpful peg boards that cribbage players use to track who’s ahead.

Later I learned that cribbage boards come in all shapes and sizes. We had a
small one for in-flight games, but nothing that would sit squarely on our table inviting hours of at-home play. Until now.

Jeff Weeks of Mean & Wroughten welds recycled materials and found metal objects into functional items like this weighty cribbage set. This distinctive, circular metal “board” with a curved wrench across the center would make any cribbage aficionado happy, and the clean, simple design would surely intrigue a novice. The warm glow of the metal means this piece holds its own in both formal and casual family rooms, and in warmer weather it would make a practical addition to a covered patio, as it won’t tip or blow over.

That’s one more gift scratched off my list. Any cribbage-lovers in your circle? Tell us what you think.

Oh, you've brought back some amazing memories. Always at the holidays we would have cribbage tournaments with the extended family. My Grandfather had a cribbage board that was a table. It stood over two feet off the ground and was at least three feet long. We would take our place on either side of the board and do battle. This one has such a wonderful design that it could be left out or hung on a wall, ready for a duel at a moments notice. Love it!

I just love today's grommet! I learned how to play cribbage this past summer and am now totally addicted! It's been tough finding a nice board. Not only is this one functional, it's a conversation piece as well. I treated myself to an early Christmas present! Thanks!

Thanks so much for the opportunity to be a "Daily Grommet". I do believe that playing cribbage on an interesting "board" makes it even more fun to play. I hope everyone enjoys their cribbage boards! Thanks, Jeff
