Arm Candy

Stacks of bracelets are hot fashion accessories, but not every bangle is a fabulous fit. We love the way Carolyn Rafaelian’s bangles fit us — literally and philosophically. For starters, these wire bangles are expandable. Instead of a traditional clasp, each bracelet has a patented sliding mechanism so you can adjust it to just the right size. No more too-big bangles that won’t stay put or too-tight bracelets that bruise your knuckles when you try to squeeze them on. We’re also fans of Carolyn’s mission. She founded Alex and Ani (named after her first two daughters) to design jewelry that not only adorns the body, but also uplifts and inspires those who wear her spirited creations. Each subtle charm, textured finish and beaded bangle is chosen for its power — to inspire peace, love, and good luck, for instance. Alex and Ani’s signature finishes are Russian gold and Russian silver, which are oxidized for a warm, antique look. All of Carolyn’s bangles are made in the U.S. and incorporate eco-friendly materials and shipped in an elegant gift-able box. She purchases recycled metals from local mills, uses what she needs to make her jewelry, and then sells the scraps back to the mills for reuse. Full circle, fully rewarding.

Any idea if these tarnish or not? is the silver finish stainless steel? i think silver plate tarnishes, but i'm not sure what these are coated with.

    thanks so much.

@Carla - they use an anti-tarnish on all of their plated styles. They use the Russian Gold/Silver as the plating is oxidized to give it an antique look. The result is a rich warm bronze like gold as opposed to the shiny 14KT Yellow gold plating.

  • Katherine

    6/24/2011 9:54 AM

@Diane: The bracelets are very adjustable, and open up pretty far. When they're fully expanded, they're about three inches wide and the circumference is ten inches. If you cut a piece of string 10 inches long, you should be able to try it out and see if the bracelet will fit. Hope this helps!

Just received my first 4 bracelets for Mother's Day, love them!

However, how can I keep the beaded bracelet with the thinner wire from tightening? The charm bracelets are fine, but the thinner wire keeps sliding to where the beads meet. It will not hold the position I need it to be to fit comfortably.

    Thank you
