Bring on the Brainstorming

When inspiration strikes, grab a pen. When the really big ideas start flowing, reach for WhiteyBoard. WhiteyBoard is a peel-and-stick dry erase board that adheres to any flat surface. It’s lightweight and transferable, so you can take it with you…when your brainstorming takes you elsewhere. It’s easy to customize, too. With scissors or a utility knife, you can cut WhiteyBoard to fit any shape, such as the back of a laptop, the wall above a dorm room desk, or a tabletop in a child’s playroom. The creators are recent college graduates (photo, left to right) Jason Wilk, Saachi Cywinski, and Sherwin Kim. The trio liked using traditional whiteboards for study sessions but were shocked to find out how much freestanding whiteboards cost. They set out to develop an inexpensive alternative and worked with chemists to formulate a vinyl “sticker” material that costs as little as one-tenth of the price of a traditional whiteboard. WhiteyBoard’s founders thought about the environment, too. Using WhiteyBoards can help to reduce paper usage. Also, to offset the impact of producing WhiteyBoards, a portion of each sale is donated to an organization that plants trees. Easy on your wallet, easy on the environment — now that’s something to get inspired about.

So happy you are able to feature Whiteyboard as your product of the day. We have been working vigorously to come up with the best product possible to save individuals and companies money on an item every office and household needs. We feel we have perfected our sticky Whiteyboards. They go up easily, don't bleed through to the wall, are non-transparent, come off easily too, and most importantly, erase without any trace. If you have any questions, please let me know. I'm around all day.

Hey! This looks like a great product and I'm ready to order!

I did want to check and compare; a few years back I had bought some smaller dry-erase vinyl pieces that adhered to the wall (They were made by, uh, a major company with 3 and M in the name.) They were very shiny and worked great if you erased within a few minutes. However, if you left anything for more than one hour, it was difficult to erase and I had to use a spray cleaner.

Please tell me how your product is different -- don't worry, I still have my credit card ready!!!!

    @Beth-ann

These are fairly shiny as well, but have a much higher erase quality than prior adhesives that you may have seen on the market. We notice that it becomes slightly difficult to erase things if they have been left up for over a week. But simple Windex or water along with a cloth will take care of that.

This sounds really great! It would have been nice if the video had shown it being removed and stored. It's great that it sticks on enough that it stays on when you want it on, but can be peeled off when you want to. But how can you wrap it up and put it into a cardboard tube once all that adhesive is explosed?

  • Cory Darby - WhiteyBoard
    Cory Darby - WhiteyBoard
    8/7/2010 12:24 AM

@Cindy Yes, WhiteyBoards adhere to an array of surfaces including textured walls, unfinished wood, fabric cube walls, glass, plywood, concrete, and most other hard synthetic surfaces. WhiteyBoarders should keep in mind that smoother surfaces mean smoother WhiteyBoards.

@Dan Weinreb Our adhesive is designed to come off surfaces without leaving residue. You can choose to keep your WhiteyBoard on for a day or a year without any damage to the surface underneath. WhiteyBoards are portable and we have specifically designed them to peel off so that they can be easily transferred to multiple surfaces. I've honestly only have moved them from one location to another and have actually never rolled this up. =(

  • joanne
    joanne – Grommet Team
    8/7/2010 7:52 AM

@Dan Weinreb...we installed and moved the WhiteyBoards a few times while creating our story. If you're going to roll it up and store it you need to reapply the plastic backer and then store it in the tube. It comes off easily and doesn't leave any adhesive residue but the larger 6'X 3' size board can be unruly..you need two people to manage it. The key point here is that the WhiteyBoard is a non permanent installation...no holes in the wall and movable. It's good for a handful of single sessions. If you plan to use it and then remove it right after a session...you might want to cut the larger size one into two pieces which will make it easier to handle while re-applying the backer.

There is no phone number and, although I was told that they were shipped, there was no tracking number. We sincerely apologize for what we know has been a frustrating customer experience. As you may have noted in their feature video, WhiteyBoard is run by three friends, recent graduates from college. This is their first business and weren't quite ready for the volume orders received from their many distributors. They are working feverishly to fulfill but we are aware that there's been a significant delay between when the order was placed and its receipt. Please contact us at [email protected] if you haven't yet received your order and we will help get your Board to you.

Thanks again for your business and support. Both are greatly appreciated.

I ordered the day I read about them, too, and have yet to receive the boards. This is for a classroom, so I am in a bind now because I don't have the boards. Whiteyboard has been hard to contact. There is no phone number and, although I was told that they were shipped, there was no tracking number. Perhaps they weren't prepared for the increase that this publicity would bring, but I am stuck now and have to go out and buy some regular white boards because class starts Monday.

    Hi there,

I ordered a few of these whiteyboards in various sizes and paid (paypal) but have not received them as of yet. Left a voicemail and email yesterday but have not heard back.

I am considering buying 4 of the big ones however so far I am leaning towards traditional boards as I am worried about non-delivery.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

2 months after order and payment we still don't have our Whiteyboard. It seems to be a cheat. Don't trust Whiteyboard!!

Trying to find out how much these are selling for. Great idea which can be expanded to dorm room use as decor if a design pattern was added.

@Joanne - the small size is $10 and the large is $30. They would be perfect for dorm room use!
