Award-Winning Mobile Data Storage

LaCie has the key to portable, elegant data storage. The technology company is known for taking simple, utilitarian gadgets and giving them a design makeover. Its iamaKey data drive delivers the perfect combination of form, function and a dose of whimsy. Let’s start with function: Those free USB drives you’ve picked up here and there don’t hold much data. If you’re lucky, you may have one that holds 1GB. And forget about transfer speed. Freebies aren’t built to be fast. But LaCie’s iamaKey drive is. Not only does the iamaKey drive come in capacities from 4GB to 32GB, it’s capable of speeds of up to 30 megabits/second (that’s speedy). Even better, the gold SIP connector is both scratch- and water-resistant for maximum durability. And to top it all off, each one includes 2 years of encrypted online storage for up to 4GB of data. As great as the functionality is, it’s the form here that really brings the wow. LaCie won a coveted 2010 IDEA award from the Industrial Designers Society of America for creating one of the thinnest and most durable USB keys currently available. The nickel-plated iamaKey drive looks right at home on your keychain, ready whenever you need your data on the go. It’s the simplest, most elegant data storage solution we’ve ever seen.

Heidi: The nice thing about our iamakey line is that it is a great tool to use at home, or at the office. You can even carry your pictures and music around with you!

Carlotta: The key itself is not encrypted. The Wuala online cloud storage can vary. Depending on the amount of storage it could be FREE (1GB) to $129 (100GB/year).

I purchased this for my husband last Christmas from another website, and it has become the easiest way for him to transport work that he needs to access both at home and at work. Add to that the fact that it doesn't attract a lot of attention on his key chain, and it's a wonderful device to give as a gift. (We have the 16GB version.) He loves it!

This is great for me. I have had exactly this problem: too much stuff to carry around. Women get to have bags, but, at least in the USA, men generally don't. We have to put all this stuff in our pockets, and I'm afraid my trouser pockets had so much stuff in them that it looked just as nerdy as a pocket protector.

There's nothing wrong with men who dress is great clothes all the time.I'm not one of them, but even I, with not much fashion sense, can see how dorky I look with bulging pockets. And I'm a software guy, for whom having gigabytes of memory at hand is often quite convenient. I used to carry around a conventional memory stick, but I have to give it up because, from the point of view of pockets, it was too bulky. It's frequently inconvenient not to have one at hand; I end up looking for someone from whom I can borrow one.

This looks like exactly the right thing. Not only does it solve my practical problem, but it's cute and funny. Like many Grommets, it's one of those things that makes you want to show it to your friends, because you know they'll get a smile out of it. Also, like so many Grommets, it would make a great gift item to people who are in my position. I can already think of a few. How many should I order?

I bought two of these, a 16G and a 32G. They've arrived and they are exactly as described. It's cool having this data in such a thin package. I can put it on my key chain without making my pockets bulge out! Very nice!

These have been out of stock for more than two months. Any idea when I can actually purchase one? Or is there is a retailer that carries them?

Do you ship to military FPO addresses?
