From Total Slob to Stepford Wife

I cleaned my whole house a few hours ago. This was kind of a breakthrough moment. I actually HATE cleaning, and almost never do it proactively (usually it’s because company is coming, or because my mess is driving my neatnik husband insane). But this time was different. This time I used cleansers from Mrs. Meyer’s Clean Day line. All of the cleansers have this amazing aromatherapy fragrance (in this case, Basil), so I happily scrubbed the floor, cleaned the fronts of my kitchen cabinets, and wiped down all the surfaces of our rented water cooler, too. (WHO DOES THAT? Okay, maybe you do, but I’d never even considered it before.) The products are also biodegradable and contain only naturally occurring cleaning agents and essential oils. The Surface Scrub is not quite as strong as what I sometimes clean my tub with, so I needed a little extra elbow grease there, but I hardly noticed since I didn’t have to hold my breath the way I normally do with the noxious stuff. They also make a concentrated All Purpose Cleanser that you can mix with water, so one bottle will last a long time (which is great if you get hooked, like me). Before I sat down to write this, I actually sniffed a cabinet. It smelled good! It smelled like the houses of women who have spotless houses! Wait a second… Could I be turning into one of them? Why do I suddenly feel compelled to tie on a ruffled apron? And what is that tiny spot on the floor? (Reaching for sponge…)

Could great smelling cleaning products convert you to becoming compulsively clean? It's actually hard for me to believe how happy I was as I powered through a pretty thorough house cleaning (which, no joke, is probably on my short list of chores I truly hate), but the proof is in the sparkling house. Can't wait to read your thoughts on this!

I am all about a clean smelling house. So far Clorox is the ranking champion but if something else out there can out "clean smell" them while actually cleaning then I could be converted.

I just love Mrs. Meyer’s Basil Collection! It brings back a lovely memory from my girlhood in North Carolina. We lived up the street from my grandmother, and I would often go along with my dad when he walked down the street to mow her lawn. While he mowed outside, I got to go inside and (what could be better to a child?) visit with "Mother Hall" and eat a Milky Way bar! Ever since, the smell of fresh cut grass reminds me of not only family, but also of Milky Way bars and summer. All good things. Something about this Basil Collection is reminiscent of that fresh cut grass. What aromas make you happy? Let us know!

As we said in the video, we started using Mrs. Meyer's just because we liked it, not thinking so much about Daily Grommet. And I had two customer service issues during that "just Jules" relationship with them that they handled very well. First, I saw that they had an offer for a free bottle of Lavender dish soap on their site, so I put that special code in my order. Turns out it had to be all caps so my final order lacked the free gift. I sent them an email, after my purchase, and they quickly responded and added the gift. (And I have to admit I like the Lavender scent for dish soap even more than the Basil...not floral, complex and bracing.) The second issue I had was that a counter top spray arrived dented, and leaking. Happily each product came in a plastic bag so there was no mess to deal with. I called them up, they quickly replaced it, and asked me for the lot number so they could pull that product aside for inspection. Terrific! And again, I was not getting special treatment...they have/had no idea who I am. We really watch this kind of thing in selecting our Grommets though. We don't recommend callous companies.

Thelma Meyer is the mother of nine children, one of whom ( a daughter) started Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day!. Mrs. Meyer's cleaning products are now owned by a larger company called The Caldrea Company from Minneapolis, MN.

Its important to me that Mrs. Meyer’s products don't have bleach and other harsh chemicals. We have sensitive skin in our house and it is very gentle and we're not into the whole anti-bacterial thing. I also like that the company, as they say, is "committed to the health and safety of our CUSTOMERS, our PLANET, and our EMPLOYEES. " It seems like a company that really gets it.

Hey all...we are a weekday operation for the foreseeable future. Let me know if that is a big bummer. We're walking before we run. (But stay tuned...Monday's Grommet is pretty loopy. Not sure Joanne and I are ready for prime time on that one. We are going to enjoy our weekends, before we push things a little sideways on Monday.)

I have used these products before and really liked them. I have this thing about scents and it fills the bill. I have a summer home with a septic system, so having these products biodegradable is what initially attracted me to them. Anything to help us be more "green".

I use these products and really like them. I have this thing for scents so it is right my alley. I also like the

fact that they are considered a "green" product. Anything to help this earth to survive longer! I have not tried the basil, but have tried the citrus before. My summer home is close to the water and we are on septic so these products work well for us.

    Jules,

I just viewed the Mrs. Meyer's Clean Day Basil Collection stuff. So I ordered 3 containers of liquid hand soap (3 different scents) -- something a little different for Holiday presents in these about to be tough times... Was a little bummed out that Mrs. M's shipping cost came out to 40% of total bill, but I guess I need to tell my gift recipients that this is from Mrs. M's & UPS... Not Daily Grommet's fault, but something that keeps me coming back to Amazon and it's Prime Shipping deal.

Harry--Yeah I hear you on the Mrs. Meyer's shipping costs. The stuff is just darned heavy. I try to save up my order until I need a lot and then the shipping costs make better economic sense. But I do appreciate your taking the plunge and supporting a really good company. They will treat you well. BTW when we ship the items (most days) we have a flat rate charge of $5.95. Just to keep things simple. When we are as big as Amazon we will do our our Prime rate. :) (One blogger recently called us the Anti-Amazon.

Jadi (in the video) just told me that the Mrs. Meyer's Stainless Steel cleaner is really effective. I had recently tried Method brand, and it disappointed, so I had low hopes for the Mrs. Meyer's. I mean, stainless is just a pain to clean. The stuff I used to use was pretty effective but kind of greasy, and I had to go to a special hardware store to find it. (Who decided ten years ago that stainless was a good idea anyway?). So I am happy for a new solution. I will stock up the next time I order from Mrs. Meyer's.
