Crosby & Taylor

Handcrafted Pewter Wares

Pewter Possibilities Deborah and Jim Chapman had a background in woodworking and romance languages, and, as it turns out, a deep love (and talent) for the artful and ancient craft of pewter smithing. When their closest friends decided to shut down their s

Today we’re featuring a number of our favorite Crosby & Taylor’s pieces: an intricately detailed bird rack for holding keys, a coffee scoop with a refined geometric pattern and its own hook, and amazing Celtic-inspired measuring spoons and cups (you’ll treasure these for generations). There’s also a Santa key (left), which a heartwarming way to reassure kids that Santa will have no trouble visiting, even if there;s no chimney.

All of the items are made from pewter, which is a blend of tin and copper that’s bound
with an agent called antimony. A key difference between these items and traditional pewter collectibles is that Crosby & Taylor’s pewter is meant to be used, not just displayed (contemporary pewter is lead-free and food safe).

Deborah reached out to us after she read about Daily Grommet in the New York Times and wrote a blog post explaining why her company would make a great Grommet. After getting to know Deborah and the work of Crosby & Taylor, we had to agree. Her family-friendly business is helping to preserve a centuries-old craft, while infusing it with a contemporary, original vibe. We love the whimsy, the practicality and the superb craftsmanship.

We are SO excited and proud to be featured as today’s Daily Grommet. When I first described my company and our values to Joanne, Chief Discovery Officer at Daily Grommet, she interrupted me to exclaim – Those are our words!

This is what I told her – We are an American company. We love what we do and we really do believe that “you vote with your dollar." We work with our hands to make beautiful products that will last for generations.

My favorite quote is from the English designer, William Morris – “Have nothing in your home that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.” Most of our products are beautiful upgraded versions of things that already exist in plastic or cheap metal. But we do feel that life is made up of lots of little moments and little pleasures. When you surround yourself with beautiful things, your life just feels that much better!

We hope you will choose some of our American-made products for yourself or for someone you love. Thank you for supporting American artisans!

We have several items from Crosby&Taylor in our kitchen. They stand up wonderfully to everyday use. The look gets better with age. The measuring cups and spoons make great wedding, anniversary and birthday gifts.

I've owned Crosby & Taylor's pewter measuring cups for over a year, as well as other of their various items they make. Not only are they beautiful to look at hanging in my kitchen but very well used in all of my baking and cooking. They look like the day I got them. Thank you Katherine for bringing such beautiful, useful, made in the USA (the old fashioned way)items to us consumers.

We have so many Crosby & Taylor products around our house - measuring cups, measuring spoons, switch plates, hooks, and a key rack by the front door. All of these items make our home special because of their unique style and artistry.

When I saw those beautiful measuring cups Paula Deen used on her show, I knew they were for me. My search started four years ago and now I have the large tree which holds measuring cups and spoons, the salt jar and coffee jar. They have been a beautiful addition to my kitchen as well as many of my friends whom I have purchased gifts for. On a recent trip to Savannah, GA, I encountered the cookie jar which will be a future purchase of mine. Your craftmanship is beautiful and now I'm a hooked collector.

I am notorious for losing my keys, and the pewter key rack that I have hanging right by my door is a life saver! I love giving these wonderful products for gifts because they are so unique, beautiful and I know they will last a lifetime. :) Great Story too, what a cute family!

I've owned the fish measuring spoons for years and this year after my kitchen remodel and for my birthday our kids and my husband surprised me with the measuring cups to match. I visited in Portland last year and just drooled over them! Now they hold a place of honor on my new countertops (and there are very few items on that countertop!)

23 years ago my daughter gave me the darling fish measuring spoon set for my birthday -it has been in 5 different kitchens since then!! I also have a beautiful wine stopper and a heart shaped rack for keys or jewelry - I use it for necklaces. I hope my family is reading this and will remember me with Crosby & Taylor items for all holidays.....

My favorite of Deborah's pewter is the fish teaspoon set, especially the tablespoon which I frequently grab when I want a small scoop as well as when I measure with it.

I came across the Crosby & Taylor at a small art gallery in North Carolina last year. I absolutely fell in love with line and was determined to have it in my home. For my 30th birthday last month my fiance bought me the super post with the fish cups and spoons. I was so excited I hugged the box when it arrived and then sat my beautiful new wares on the kitchen table to adore them! I love them so much and know that they will be in my home forever!

Their work is beautiful. WE have the please of knowing one of their daughters, Petrel, who gave us a wine stopper with a heart at the top. It is our favorite piece in our wine bar at home.

Being self-employed has always been big in our family and we applaud other successful families making their way in the world without a corporate umbrella.

    wishing you continued success!

I've been enjoying Crosby & Taylor products for many years. I love buying american made and knowing each piece is made by hand. My favorite gift item for new babies is the tooth fairy kit. For Christmas, the nativity set and for every day, the celtic spoons. Instant WOW factor when you give C&T gifts. I don't have an extravagant kitchen but my pewter cups and spoons make me feel like I do!

I found Crosby & Taylor back when they were the Tin Woodsman many years ago in a quaint boutique in Virginia. As newlyweds, we splurged on the purchase of a set of the celtic measuring spoons, researched their company on their website, then ordered the larger set to match. Last year I finished my set out with the spectacular matching stand. It is the focal point of my kitchen and it brings my joy to see and use them. It was one of the best household purchases I have ever made and it distinguishes me as one classy cook!
