The Grommet is a product launch platform. This means we find unique, undiscovered products and help them succeed. Our goal is to level the playing field so the best companies can win. Until The Grommet came along in 2008, that was simply not always the case. We have attracted a powerful community of Makers, Retailers and Consumers whose enthusiasm for suggesting, sharing, and buying Grommets ensures the survival and growth of the ground-breaking companies behind them. We are rooted in the philosophy of Citizen Commerce™ whereby regular people form the consumer experience by suggesting products that reflect their values and interests.

In the summer of 2014 we launched a new Wholesale Platform at the White House Maker Faire to connect these independent Makers with Main Street Retailers, supporting both and ensuring their success. Our end goal is that within five years 10% of all products flowing through U.S. retail will be originating from independent small-scale Makers, creating vibrant jobs and innovative products in every corner of our country.

Our team is composed of creative and driven individuals with unique vision who are building a disruptive product launch platform with no direct competitors. We have blue chip investors, including Rakuten, and are in high-growth mode.

Senior Discovery Associate

A Senior Discovery Associate at The Grommet is part curator, part merchant, and part storyteller. The product of your work is an e-commerce-enabled Maker story that lives on our Product Launch Platform, and creates success for our Makers.  Our work is changing the way products get launched and the way consumers and retailers discover new products.

As a Senior Discovery Associate, you will support the growth and scale of our business by forging new partnerships and onboarding new Makers to our platform. Your daily work will create merchandise assortments, consumer offers and partnership terms for assigned categories. In this role you will be the internal champion for new Makers, working with them throughout the launch process and collaborating with our creative team. You will foster close working relationships with the Discovery Managers, Media team, and Copywriters by strengthening our systems, advancing our processes, and elevating our launches. Each Senior Associate is thoroughly trained to handle launch responsibilities, interact with our makers and prepared to contribute on cross-functional projects across the organization.

Key Activities:

  • Demonstrates strong communication skills, fluidly articulating The Grommet’s value and requirements to engage Makers, both in writing and in person. You will be responsible for establishing strong partnerships and setting up success for the long-term relationship
  • Develops vision and strategy on the content side to assure successful Grommet launches
  • Supplies direction to content team on story points, brand messaging, historical perspectives, alternative uses for products
  • Support Discovery Managers with follow up on asset requests -- founder footage, photos, details, etc.
  • Helps the team evaluate products by supporting us with testing, data collection and evaluation
  • Structures partnerships and manages The Grommet launch process for Makers within a selection of category verticals. Use technology, social media and old fashioned business development techniques, to maintain a funnel of new Ideas and strong Maker relationships
  • Learn to Q&A the website user experience; proofreading, checking details, and making small changes in the back end

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related field, and 2-3 years of related experience
  • Has a passion for consumer products, entrepreneurship and new to market ideas
  • Desire and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, and to effectively work on multiple projects in various phases and under tight deadlines

Maker Operations Associate

A Maker is an inventor, designer and tinkerer. They are the people and companies who spawn new ideas that inspire and stir the imagination of consumers. In this role you will have direct contact with these Makers on a daily basis. Allowing for a much deeper dive into an ever-growing array of businesses and exposure to unique challenges. Each Associate is thoroughly trained to handle responsibilities and prepared to contribute on cross-functional projects across the organization.

Key Activities:

  • Prepare Maker and Product for launch onsite
    • Capturing pertinent information and details from Maker
    • Setting up all necessary Maker information in The Grommet’s systems
    • Guide Makers through The Grommet’s systems and processes
  • Manage Order Performance
    • Take proactive measures to ensure timely order delivery to our customers
    • Investigate the root problems that cause Maker delivery issues
  • Inventory Planning
    • Forecast product needs with Discovery Managers for new launches
    • Maintain catalog of existing Grommets
  • Sales Performance
    • Monitor monthly and quarterly sales/order performance benchmarks for makers with Manager
  • Work with Discovery managers to optimize on site product offering
  • Manage inbound Maker support inquiries

E-commerce Senior Merchandising Associate

The Grommet is a launch platform for early-stage consumer products. We are reshaping how products become successful and how people discover, share, influence, and buy products online. We are looking for Merchandising talent to optimize our email programming and Marketing campaigns by surfacing relevant, engaging merchandise that supports the overall strategy of The Grommet.

The E-commerce Senior Merchandising Associate drives revenue through smart, effective selections for our email and other programming vehicles. The selections must be well coordinated to not only present visually compelling and relevant merchandise but also maintain an effective planning process to assure operations and inventory planning is ready to execute against orders. This role works closely with the Maker Operations, Marketing and Discovery teams to deliver well coordinated daily, monthly and seasonal campaigns. The position reports to the Vice President, Discovery and offers excellent training and potential for advancement.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Manage the selection of programming for daily email, Saturday collections and thematic Marketing campaigns. Assure proper rotation of products by maintaining records of Grommet promotions.
  • Lead cross-functional merchandising projects that require coordination and collection of creative and product assets. Establish channels of communication among teams to foster teamwork and collaboration.
  • Optimize the catalog performance including site and catalog navigation, cross merchandising, and promotional campaigns. Work in our back-end system to build collections and make updates as needed. Continuously create and test merchandising strategies to increase average order value.
  • Creatively re-purpose Grommets and assets for our gifting and featured collections on a regular schedule and plan seasonal or thematic content that promotes strong products on high-traffic areas of our site. Analyze site metrics to optimize pages where we are experiencing traffic.
  • Work with Discovery team and directly with Makers to maintain an overall assortment that reflects fresh merchandise and effective content as Grommets age in the catalog, supporting Maker updates with programming efforts.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree and three years of merchandising experience, with particular emphasis on visual merchandising for ecommerce
  • Demonstrate ownership for your projects and ability to influence cross-functional initiatives
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel, ecommerce tools, Magento (a plus), and Google Analytics
  • Strong project management and organizational skills that enable you to smoothly handle several projects at once
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage details in a dynamic, fun and fast-paced environment

Wholesale Sales Representative

The Grommet Wholesale is seeking a full-time Sales Representative responsible for generating new business with Small Brick and Mortar Gift Shops. In this role you will be focused on driving revenue generation through in person, phone and email correspondence as well as screen-sharing presentations to prospects and existing clients. The ideal candidate will have experience selling to small and medium sized retailers. To succeed in this role, a potential candidate should be ambitious, personable, committed, and willing to hustle.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Prospect new business
  • Follow-up on and manage qualified leads by phone and email
  • Attend on-site demos and meetings as required
  • Lead one-on-one screen-sharing presentations as required
  • Track prospect progression to close in Salesforce.com
  • Handle other duties and responsibilities as defined by management

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • 3+ years of B2B sales experience

UX/UI Designer

We are looking for a UX/UI and visual designer hybrid who has created digital experiences from concept to launch with responsive websites, has great strength in visual design, and has had exposure to wireframing, user experience design, and development. You will work closely with the web designer, product manager and development team to develop high level and/or detailed storyboards, mockups, user flows and prototypes. You will also create intuitive, engaging and brand-consistent design solutions for a broad range of collateral, including emails, marketing campaigns, print materials, presentations, and anything and all design-related.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Work collaboratively with the Product, Marketing and Development teams to design and lead user research and testing and be able to present and defend your designs intelligently
  • Articulate and design concept interactions across multiple platforms: web, phone, tablet and email
  • Create design collateral with Marketing and Discovery teams
  • Manage multiple projects from concept through execution in an extremely fast-paced environment – ability to multi-task is crucial

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • You take a user-centered approach to design with deep understanding of information architecture, interaction and usability best practices
  • Ability to document user experience and interactivity through wireframes, flowcharts, screenshots, design specifications and demos
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to empathize with a variety of different types of users

  • Experience with ecommerce and retail centric design a plus

Data Analyst

The Grommet is a product launch platform that helps early stage Makers launch their products. We aim to serve and help our community of Makers in many facets, not the least of which is data. The Business Intelligence team is responsible for collecting and analyzing information to support data driven decision-making. Our data provides insights into sales and marketing for The Grommet and our Makers that would normally not have access to these resources.

Within the Business Intelligence team, the analyst will work to provide detailed analysis to the Discovery, Maker, Marketing, Operations and Finance teams to facilitate better decision-making.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Interpret data, analyze results using statistical techniques, and provide ongoing reports
  • Filter and “clean” data to identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Work closely with the Business Intelligence Specialist and the VP of Finance and Operations to prioritize business and information needs
  • Analyze and create forecasts for new launch products
  • Analyze sales and inventory information on a weekly and monthly basis to create forecasts for our existing product catalog
  • Locate and define new process improvement opportunities
  • Work with other teams to help analyze large data sets and draw conclusions that are then executable
  • The opportunity to work on cross functional projects with many different teams

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • BS in Business, Mathematics, Economics, Finance or related analytical field
  • Experience with Excel (Pivot tables, vlookup, etc.)
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience analyzing large data sets
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Experience with SQL preferred, but not required
  • 0-2 years experience in a quantitative role
