Makes Lighting A Fire A Joy, Not A Chore

6/30/2013 by Desmond

It works as advertised (which I seriously doubted possible) and it makes lighting a fire a joy, not a chore. No more fire-starters. No more fighting. No more wishing I had a gas-insert in the fireplace. I just bought a second one for our cabin in Maine.More > < Less

Works well

12/14/2018 by Brenda

I bought this for my husband - we like to have fires every night in the winter months. It works well, but not as well as I had hoped. Not sure if maybe we're doing something wrong, but thinking it's our fireplace more than this product. Roll it in ash and light it and it does great! For us though it never goes more than 5 minutes. My theory is that we have an area under the grate that catches ash that you can open a door on the outside of the house to remove. So it's carved into the bottom of the fire place. Perhaps that is causing a draft or something to make this burnout faster? Not sure. Overall, it does what it says and looks nice by the fireplace. I just wish it worked better for our fireplace.More > < Less

Easy fire starter

11/11/2017 by Veronica

First of all, this is a beautifully, well-made product. Absolutley gorgeous, and smaller than I expected so easy to fit in around the fireplace. Second, it really, really works. I don't always have seasoned wood, so in the past I would buy Envirologs as the base, and load wood around it. With this purchase, however, I am able to use the firestarter easily each time. The only issue I have, and it's MY issue, is remembering to put the soapstone wand back into the vessel after it coola down so it's ready for the next use.More > < Less

Works great - not for wet/new wood

1/6/2015 by James

This was a hit for my wife who loves fires in the winter. We have been going through a box of fire logs a week since it got cold and the fireplace has been going. This removes the need for a fire log or any other extensive kindling in most cases.

It does not burn long enough if the wood is at all wet, or if it has been cut this season. But all the more seasoned wood from last year or before can start just fine using the firestone alone.

Best fire starter ever

Great product shipped fast and very well packed. At first I thought it was defective as the cylinder was loose then I realized it needed to spin in order to work...and it does work great!More > < Less

Adirondack Firestone Company - FireLighter

About Adirondack Firestone Co.

All Fired Up

Nothing says cozy like curling up in front of a crackling fire, but you can’t get comfy until the fire gets going. Sometimes that’s a challenge, especially when you’ve just sent all your old newspapers to be recycled and there’s not a scrap of dry kindling nearby.

For foolproof fire-starting, we’re reaching for the FireLighter from Adirondack Firestone Company. It’s easy to use, you don’t need newspaper or kindling, and it works every time. Brothers Todd and Chad Keehfus teamed up to create the system, which uses an oil-soaked stone to get the flames going.

The FireLighter starter kit includes a ceramic vessel, two bottles of the company’s Candle & Lamp Oil, and a FireStone attached to a steel rod. To get started, soak the FireStone in the oil-filled vessel. Next, roll the FireStone lightly in fireplace ashes, ignite it with a match or lighter, and place the lit stone under the firewood in the fireplace. The FireLighter stone will burn for about 15 to 20 minutes, igniting the rest of the firewood.

Todd and Chad founded Adirondack Firestone Company to celebrate the charm and spirit of New York's mountainous Adirondack region. They’ve also made it a priority to work with U.S. suppliers. The ceramic vessel is handcrafted in the pottery corridor between Columbus, Ohio, and Wheeling, West Virginia, the lamp oil comes from Texas, and the steel rods are made in Greene, NY, using machinery that dates back to the early 20th century. The FireLighter kits are assembled in Syracuse, NY, at a facility that employs and trains people with developmental disabilities. From start to finish, FireLighter is hard to resist.
