A Shiny SOLEution

We’ve all been there, wincing in pain after a night of standing, walking and partying in strappy stilettos. Sure, you could take off your heels and dance barefoot for the last few songs. But if shoeless isn’t your style, we’ve found a chic solution for aching arches. AfterSoles are slim ballet flats that roll up to the size of a cell phone. They’re the invention of Susie Levitt and Katie Shea, who met at New York University and bonded over an uncomfortable walk home in heels. Susie and Katie didn’t want to give up their heels, so they set out to design a back-up pair of shoes stylish, comfortable and compact enough to fit in a small purse or pocket. AfterSoles come in small, medium and large sizes, and you can choose black, silver or gold. When your feet start screaming for mercy, unroll your AfterSoles and slip your high heels into the handy shoe bag that comes with every pair. These funky flats will keep you going for a few extra hours on the dance floor (perfect for wedding guests) and make the end of the evening a lot more comfortable. Your tired feet will thank you, and you won’t have to be the first to leave the party. Buy the music now in this video from Mama’s Boy Goes Digital now on iTunes

Hi all! Katie Shea & Susie Levitt here – co-founders of FUNK-tional Footwear and creators of AfterSoles roll-up ballet flats. After enduring stiletto-induced sorrows throughout our four years as NYU students, we decided our aching arches needed a break! We loved how high heels looked, but NOT how they felt! We developed AfterSoles as a portable footwear “sole”-ution for urban and suburban women of all ages. From airports to weddings to errands to work, these lightweight (just 2 oz.) sole savers can always be found in our purse, suitcase, or glove compartment!

We’re so excited that Daily Grommet has elected to share our favorite fashion “sole”-ution with you all. We’ll be available all day to answer any questions you may have for us :)

What a great idea, not only for a long night or day in heels, but to carry in your purse for all the homes that don't want you to wear your shoes.

I often, especially in the summer, bring a pair of slippers with me when I go to friends' houses where the rule is to remove your shoes at the door. I don't like walking around someone's home barefooted. These are much more portable than my slippers! They would be very packable too, for a pair of slippers while traveling.

A friend just emailed me to say she is going to have to get these for something to slip into after golfing when the after-golf party heads to a friend's house.

Their compactness makes them very versatile. Great idea Katie and Susie!

Hi! These sound great! One question, are they vegan friendly? That is, are the any animal sourced by-products in the adhesive, liner, sole, etc? (I saw that they are PU leather, but a search turns up inconsistent information on if PU is actually 100% artificial leather.)

    I appreciate any information!

Thanks everybody for the kind words! To answer your questions, we are coming out with an XL for Spring 2011 and will be sure to let you all know when we do! And yes, AfterSoles are vegan friendly! There are no animal sourced by-products in the shoes, bag, or packaging :) Although AfterSoles don't have the rigidity of a normal shoe, they definitely hold up outside! We wear them around NYC all the time! Sole-fully, Katie & Susie

Another thing women tell us all the time - they leave their AfterSoles in the glove compartment of their cars!!! Not only is driving in heels uncomfortable, but it can also be dangerous! Keep a "spare pair" for behind the wheel :)

I would love to order these but wear a size 11 shoe - the description says up to 10.5 - is this a generous enough cut for another 1/2 size or is the 10.5 tight? Thanks

@Wendy: They will be extending their sizing in the near future. Unfortunately, the large size wouldn't comfortably fit a size 11.
