Double-Duty Brooch

Sarah Vander Wal couldn’t help but notice her professor, Ali Shapiro, was often running late because she misplaced her reading glasses. Wearing an eyeglass chain didn’t appeal to Ali, and the conundrum inspired an inventive solution by the student/teacher duo from Parsons The New School for Design. Dubbed the Eye Gotcha, their invention provides a hook for hanging eyeglasses or sunglasses when you’re not using them. It uses magnets, not pins, so you don’t have to worry about piercing a favorite jacket, dress or cardigan. And it’s designed like a brooch, so it solves a practical problem with stylish flair. Sarah and Ali have come up with a range of modern, whimsical and traditional designs, so there’s something for all outfits. To use the Eye Gotcha, place the decorative face on the outside of a lapel or neckline, then wrap the herringbone chain around the edge of the fabric and align the ends so the magnets connect. The chain creates a loop for hanging eyeglasses, and it also works to keep scarves in place. Eye Gotcha is simple, elegant, and expressive. It’s a clever way to put a fashionable end to misplaced eyewear.

I love the pig one. That is just my personality. I also like that it can also be used for a scarf tie. Great idea.

Love the look and functionality of this great item. Unfortunately I am wearing bifocals every waking minute, very poor eyesight. But I do think this is a very clever idea.

I love my Eye Gotchas. I got several so I always have the right look for whatever I'm wearing. Not only do I get complements on how fabulous they are and questions about where I got them -- but I can always find my glasses which is something I've been struggling with for years. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this fabulous innovation. You have changed my world!

No more Glasses in you mouth, or in your hair, or in a pocket waiting to fail out or just puttting it in your purse waiting for it to get scratched because you can't be bothered to find the case. No more pinning name tags through your clothes and the adornments make you name pop; what I mean to say is that there are so many creative uses . When my friends see one they want one. Get gifts to buy in multiples as they are fresh and new and affordable

The pieces are beautiful, but they eventually slip off my shirt collar. I don't wear heavy glasses, so I wonder if certain materials lack the grit to hold the magnet. Any tips?
