The Self Journal

Make Goals Happen

This goal-setting planner takes its cues from high achievers. Planning out small, actionable steps and tracking progress is the key to reaching your goals.

The canvas-bound pages help you break down lofty objectives into doable tasks. Set a daily intention on each page and map out steps to make it happen. At the end of every day, you’re prompted to reflect—reveling in the daily wins and reflecting on what you can do
differently tomorrow.

To create their journal, Founders Cathryn Lavery and Allen Brouwer researched many high performing people to discover the secret to their success. Yearlong goals often failed because they were simply overwhelming. Instead, planning smaller tasks, doing them, and reflecting on them led to real change.

Cathryn and Allen left the pages without dates, so you can personalize your own timetable—whether you want to work for 91 days straight or take a vacation in between. There is blank space for doodles and brainstorms, and positive quotes are peppered throughout the pages for encouragement.

We like that the journal asks you to examine WHY you have the goals that you do, too. Starting off with pure motivation can make all the difference. Start small and write it all down—your goals are closer than you think.

Well @Mike , this distills the key performance tasks that high-level achievers use on a daily basis into one easy to use Journal. We learned from people like Tony Robbins, Jack Canfield, Lewis Howes, and many others. Took what they were using and put it inside the SELF Journal.

How did you take the idea of a motivational journal and turn it into a business?

Great question @Mike. We designed the Journal for ourselves. But the cost was a little high to manufacture for just us. We showed it to some friends, and they wanted it. Then we launched on Kickstarter which really validated the product. Turns out people love it. Our customers find success with the product the first week of using it, and they promote it to their friends/spouse/family/etc.

There are inspirational quotes, charts, weekly calendars, what were essential elements in designing a product that would bring out the best in people?

@Mike We essentially wanted to take the habits of successful people and create a framework for people within the SELF Journal. This way you don't have to read a ton of books or re-invent the wheel. By tracking what you're doing, staying accountable and being inspired you will get to where you want to go.

@Michele Thanks for your message. Your short term goal sounds like you'll be able to reach it. And perfect timing for "spring cleaning".

Right now Blue is the only color we offer. We may introduce other colors in the upcoming year or so.

Let us know how you get on with reaching your goal. :)

@Cathryn Beautiful idea and presentation. You know, I was looking at Instagram today--and found that Ivanka Trump keeps hand-written goals. If SHE does that, we should all aspire to be better goal-setters.

I love that these involve hand writing instead of adding something else to our phones. The human race could definitely use a little more emotion when journaling/goal setting. Thanks for a great idea, and thanks to The Grommet team for bringing this to us!
