One Piece Placemat

A Welcome Mat

The Happy Mat makes kids’ mealtime less messy and less stressful, with an all-in-one plate and placemat and an all-in-one bowl and placemat. The fact that these solutions were invented by a mother of three young boys almost goes without saying.

That mom, Lindsay Laurain, was tired of chaotic, food-flung dinners. She created a large silicone placemat with an integrated three-section plate. It suctions onto a counter or table,
so there’s nothing to slide around and no upset dishes. Any mess your little eaters make is more likely to end up on the mat, which rolls up easily afterward.

Each Happy Mat is dishwasher safe, so cleaning is a snap. And if your kid takes a while to eat, the Happy Mat goes right in the microwave. It’s FDA-approved, made with a 100% safe silicone. And it stores easily, and doesn’t leave marks on surfaces, so it’s great on plane trips. You can use it for craft time, too.

Plus, remember when you were a kid, how you liked things made just for you? That’s why kids will be happy to use the Happy Mat. You’ll be happy too—especially when dinner is done.

Hi Grommet! I am Lindsey the founder of the EzPz Happy Mat and a proud mother of 3 boys! I developed this one piece silicone placemat and plate after too many messy meals at my own house. I am here if you have any questions!

@Lindsey This is a great idea! How big is the mat, it looks too big to fit in a microwave?

I'd like to have one (okay, several) designed for pets like mine who like to flip their water bowls over for grins.

@Geoffrey coming soon :) We keep everyone updated on our facebook page. Love the suggestion! Please keep them coming.

@Lindsey -- I second Geoffrey's comment! I have a cat that likes to drop his toys in his water bowl and then proceed to batter the bowl around and spill water in the process. There is definitely a niche in the pet market for this kind of product. I'll keep an eye out for it. Thanks! :-D

@Lindsey they make them for pets already....look at neaterfeeder.com

  • Marie

@Jackie -- Thanks for the tip. I will check out neaterfeeder, but I'd certainly be happy to support Lindsey's small business as well if she can come up with a comparable quality product.

@Lindsey-- I tried looking for your FB page, but I don't see it. I only see a "Happy Mat" Yoga business.

Suggestion for possible, future iteration design: integrate a drinking cup element (near the edge closest to the child) with a twist-on lid, featuring a permanent straw. NO more knocking over drinks or spills! ;0)

Lindsay this is an amazing idea!

Can you tell me where this is made?

@Lynn it is made responsibly in China; we have a phenomenal manufacture. When I started working on the Happy Mat I exclusively reached out to US manufacturers and, unfortunately, was unable to arrive at a cost structure worth pursuing.

The good news is that I have a terrific partner in China and I am 100% committed to a responsible manufacturing process and safe products for kids. The Happy Mat is made from high-quality FDA approved silicone that is non-toxic, PVC, BPA and phthalate free. It is designed in the United States and luckily we have been able to hire quite a few folks!

@Lindsey even with the cost of overseas shipping, to keep costs down, it's so disappointing that American ingenuity cannot figure out a way to make nice products like this compatibly priced. no small ones here anymore, but the cup thing, as well as the pet dish are very good ideas. good luck!

My wife and I are ready to buy this ASAP because our 2-year-old and soon to arrive baby #2 can/will be using this! Quick question, how well do the suction cups work on wood?

  • Dan

    3/16/2015 1:56 PM

@Abraham: Lindsey can back me up on this, but in my experience on a smooth wood surface such as a finished table or countertop, the suction is quite strong, as on other flat surfaces.

If you use this on a wood surface with gaps, such as a picnic table, the mat wont adhere to the surface, though it still stays pretty solidly in place by weight alone.

@Abraham the suction works as long as the surface is flat and no air can get underneath the mat. SO a really grainy wood table won't be great for the suction. Honestly, you should be fine with your 2 year old and not even need the suction (we started with the boys when they were 2). The Happy Mat really is WAY more than the suction (even though that feature is awesome). Congratulations on #2 and let me know if you have any other questions.

Lindsey, great idea and I'd love to purchase. Would this work on a high chair tray? or only on a flat surface such as a counter. Also, would this work on a wood table?

  • Lindsey

@Kim Marie Thanks! It really depends on the high chair size; the current Happy Mat is 10*15 inches. It will work on a wood table as long as no air can get underneath the mat. SO a really grainy wood table won't be great for the suction.Another option is to remove the high chair tray and push the chair right to the table. This way, you could have your kid at the table with you. The Happy Mat really is WAY more than the suction (even though that feature is awesome) :)

Hi @Lindsey! We purchased our Happy Mat for Christmas and just started using it with our 10 mo old. He has already figured out how to pull up the corners and overturn the mat. We're using it on a clean, smooth table. I've tried the mat dry and wet. I have tried it a few times and he can flip it over every time. Any pointers on how to get it to work is appreciated.

@Corinne ugh so sorry to hear that! We are actually modifying the edges to make it harder for kids to peel but they won't be released for a bit. The Happy Bowls have the new edge and will be released at the end of this month. It sounds like you are doing everything correctly; unfortunately, kids can technically peel at the corners but we have found majority pull at the plate so it suctions. We made a video in regard to this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPZrgF8e7Lk. I hope this helps and sorry for the inconvenience.
