Fast-Dry Towels

High-Tech Towel

When is a towel more than a towel? When it’s lightweight, antimicrobial, quick-drying, and sunburn-preventing. Like this one.

The fast-dry towel from Discovery Trekking Outfitters is made from an innovative fabric that’s designed to pull the water from your skin and then spread the moisture across the surface area of the fabric so it evaporates quickly. The absorbancy is almost unbelievable; you don’t have to rub, you just touch the towel to your skin and the moisture moves to the towel like a magnet. And after you’re
dry, the towel itself dries incredibly fast (up to three times faster than typical cotton towels).

Leslie Hanes, founder of Discovery Trekking, created the towel to be the perfect companion for swimmers, hikers, travelers, and beach goers like herself. She infused the fabric with built-in Silver Salt antimicrobial technology to discourage bacterial growth (you won’t miss the smell that most towels harbor when they’re soggy), and SPF sun protection. It’s everything you need to stay dry, cozy and protected from the sun.

Hi! My name is Leslie Hanes. I am the “inventor” of the Ultra Fast-Dry Sport & Travel Towel. You may know that we Canadians are generally polite and have funny accents…but did you know that some of the most innovative product ideas originate here? Even so, the USA makes the best fabrics, so that’s why our fabrics are made in the USA. That’s teamwork! Got questions about our amazing towels? Ask away!

People often ask why having Silver in the fabric makes a difference. Silver is one of the best antimicrobials known. For thousands of years its been used to kill germs and purify. Now, even hospitals rely on Silver in bandaging, to fight infections. Most "wicking" high tech fabrics have a chemical antibacterial agent that washes out very quickly. This is why the fabric starts to get stinky. The Polygiene Silver that we use in our towels is permanent...they will never get musty smelling like other towels.

    Hi Leslie,

I read about your towles but was wondering what the difference was between polygene fabric and viscose which seems to have the same lightweight, moisture wicking properties.

@ Linda Hi Linda! To clarify, our fabric is Polyester that wicks moisture because of the technical design of the fibers. Most fabrics including Viscose, suck moisture inside which is why they take a longer time to dry. Our fabric pulls the moisture "around" the fibers and spreads it across the surface, so it can dry 3-4 times faster than conventional fabrics. The Polygiene is a silver treatment that is permanently bonded to the fiber, to kill germs. The Discovery Trekking towels have won awards for innovation.

I also own a Curves fitness franchise. With hundreds of members working out and using these special towels, you would think they would wear out or get stinky. We wash them each day, and after several years they still look like new, and are as fresh as when we made them.

@ David - I am pulling over this information from our details tab that is found below the Grommet video but above the story. It's a little hidden, so I wanted to make sure you saw it as it has more detailed information about any given Grommet.

    Dimensions:

    Large: 34"x 58"

    Small: 16" x 28"

Size matters...in our towels. As mentioned, the fabric spreads water across the surface. So, you choose a size based on how you intend to use the towel. The more water you expect to dry off (swimming, showering) the larger the towel you should choose. The small size is best as a hand towel, or for working out in the gym.Technically the small one will dry your whole body, but it would not dry out again as fast as a larger one with more surface area. For travel, I always take a large one because it is so multi-functional. It not only makes a great beach coverup (blocks the sun, and sand doesn't stick to them) but it can be used as a airplane blanket, a sarong, or a shawl. They are very luxurious, both look and feel.

How bulky are your towels? I'm wondering how much space they take up in a suitcase.

@ Marguerite Hi Marguerite! The towels can be folded in many ways, so giving dimensions can be a matter of how you fold them. However, I have one here and just folded it so the dimensions are 7"x4"x2". This is the large size. This size weighs just a bit over 10 oz.

However, I never pack mine. It's always in my carry-on because I use it when I'm on the plane to take the chill off. I hate airplane blankets (who knows where they've been? lol) I was stuck in an airport for a long time once...sure was glad I had my blanket!

    What is the fabric?

    @Rose

The fabric is polyester. However, it doesn't feel at all like the kind of polyesters of the "old days". It is very soft and feels lovely against the skin. This is because it is "built" with a special formation knitting that utilizes smaller and larger fibers, to create the best wicking. There is a smooth side, which is what you put against your skin, and a "waffle" pattern on the other side that is very pretty.

Here's an image that helps explain how this fabric pulls moisture from the inside to the outside around the fibers (not by being absorbed into the fibers) where the moisture spreads out thinly so that it can evaporate quickly.

Made in USA good thing, finished in Mexico bad thing. I do appreciate you being honest though, had I bought it and then found out I would have been very upset.

@Patricia Panuccio We are a Canadian company. We use US fabrics (the Polartec mill is famous, and makes the best fabrics!) The cut and sew is done in Mexico, by a US company and there are many Americans who work for this company, both in the US and Mexico. Without this partnership, US jobs would be lost...so its a good thing. These types of arrangements can be complicated, but we really feel we've got the best of both worlds...a truly North American partnership.

@Leslie Hanes thank you for the clarification, I have many friends in the fabric finishing business that have lost jobs to us companies that have gone to mexico for cheap labor. Maybe some day NAFTA will work and be fair to all. I wish you the best, but without my dollar.
