Better!Broom

Coconut Palm Outdoor Broom

Sturdy Sweeper

Better!Broom is a sturdy coconut palm broom inspired by similar versions long used around the world. During a trip to China, Maker Susan Albrecht noticed locals sweeping up outside using rustic-looking brooms. The simple-but-effective design stayed with her, and when she couldn’t find it back home in the States, she created a better (and all-natural) way to sweep up.

The brooms are handmade with strong, flexible coconut tree palm fronds. The coconut coir (fiber from the husk) ties give extra durability, too. The result is a lightweight broom that can handle heavy sweeping jobs, while standing up through years of outdoor use, too. From dirt and debris to leaves and even light snow, sweeping with this earth-friendly (and attractive) broom is indeed altogether better.

I suppose one can just hose it down after terribly grimey sweeping outdoors before using it inside, right?

    Hello @Robert,

Absolutely! The Better!Broom can be used to sweep dirty and grimy wet debris and then you can most certainly hose it down to clean inside. The Better!Broom excels at cleaning outdoors and rough surfaces but you can also use it to clean indoors on tile, brick, indoor outdoor carpet, and even to sweep the fringe on your rugs!

    Hello Lisa,

The Better!Broom can be used to sweep indoors on rough surfaces such as brick, tile, indoor / outdoor carpeting, and even rugs. Smooth concrete, tile, and fine wood floors are probably the only things you wouldn't want to use the Better!Broom.

    Hi Susan!

I'm intrigued, but the broom looks so thin. Will it really last for years?

    Hello Theresa,

Yes, the Better!Broom does look thin compared to other denser brooms, however, this is where the combination of a rake with a broom come to play.

More fibers are not needed for the Better!Broom as the stiffness yet flexibility of the Better!Broom's fibers work perfectly to easily sweep up both large items of debris as well as small items, such as sand and dirt.

As to the durability, the coconut tree is one of the most durable plants on the planet; as such the fibers of the Better!Broom are both lightweight and durable which is why the Better!Broom won't curl up and bend at the bottom if you stand the broom on it's head. The Better!Broom looks great for years to come and is always ready to go to work!

@Susan I love this broom. I use it indoors & out and it works great, especially getting into cracks like on my driveway. I can't wait to surround it with pumpkins for my Fall front door display.

    Jacquie,

Thank you, Jacquie! We agree, once you try the Better!Broom you won't want to use any other broom for sweeping outdoors. And as for decoration, the Better!Broom is certainly the best looking broom on the market. The Better!Broom is a handcrafted work of art that's a beautiful and decorative accessory when not in use yet a powerful tool when chores are at hand.

I am from Asia and we use this all the time, everyday for outdoors ONLY. It will scratch your wood floors and it is really meant to clean the outdoors. And no, it will not last for years. But where we are, each is sooooo cheap that it is what we use for outside.

    Hello Amy,

We agree, the Better!Brooms excels on rough surfaces and polished concrete and fine finished wood floors require a more delicate touch. I'm not sure how long the brooms you used in Asia lasted but we've been using the Better!Broom for over three years now and it's still going strong without showing any signs of wear or tear. The Better!Broom is handcrafted in Sri Lanka to not only look good but to work like a champ and durability has certainly been a strong point of the Better!Broom.

Can it be used on composite outdoor decking without scratching the finish and stain?

    Nancy,

Depending on how fragile your composite decking is, the Better!Broom is stiff and could potentially scratch fragile flooring. If your flooring is easy to scratch, a softer broom may be more appropriate.

My wife bought one for our patio 2 years ago and has since bought one that sits at the front door. We use it almost daily to sweep the front walkways and it works great on our patio carpet as well as on the grass for leaves and pine needles. They are both a couple of years old, still work great and look great.

    Robert,

Thank you! Yes, the Better!Broom is great for using on the back patio, in the garden, and on the front porch, and when it's not in use the Better!Broom looks great when paired with seasonal decor both inside and outside the home.

I need to replace my outdoor push broom that I use to sweep out my garage. (concrete floor).... I noticed that you said your broom wouldn't work on smooth concrete. Why is that? Just curious.

    Janet,

The Better!Broom can certainly be used to sweep concrete, patios, and the concrete floor in the garage, but polished concrete may need a more delicate touch in order to not disturb the finish.
