Blade Buddy
Razor Blade Sharpener

Saving on Shaving

Grommet Launch Conversation
-
Celso Martell, Blade Buddy's inventor, spent over five years developing and patenting this environmentally-friendly shaving tool that extends the life of razor blades from days to months. With Blade Buddy you get a close, comfortable shave - everyday of the year - with as few as 4 to 8 of your favorite blades. Cut down on new blade purchases and put the savings in your pocket. Planet Earth (and Celso) will thank you.
-
Does this work with the four blade razors?
-
@Karyn
-
@Karyn Indeed!! Blade Buddy works with 2-blade, 3-blade, 4-blade, 5-blade and 6-blade razors. Brad
-
@Brad This is an amazing product that truly works! I purchased this for my husband and he is on his 4th month with the same blade. I highly recommend it.
-
@Debra Thanks Debra. Hopefully he's put aside all the money he's saved for a special Christmas gift for you!!
-
@Brad, I use a safety razor (basically a 1-blade). Will it work on that, with that rounded head?
-
@Michael Blade Buddy was not designed to work with razors that one typically finds at a barber shop. There are specialized leather strops in the market that serve this niche.
-
@Celso I think you missed the type of razor Michael was asking about, go back to the first razor you used assuming it wasn't an electric.
-
@Lynn You are correct! I guess I was thrown off by the rounded head... Blade Buddy works perfectly fine with safety razors, however since most users of safety razor blades are already paying very little for their blades, they're not nearly as interested in Blade Buddy's cost-saving benefits.
-
wondering what it is made out of. And maybe would it work mounted on wall in shower? would be convenient. could use sugru:):) but really, what is on the back side?
-
@nancy Blade Buddy is made of silicone rubber. Its surface is embedded with the patented, micro-groove technology that restores blade sharpness. Blade Buddy sits in a black, removable plastic shell. The underside of this shell has 2 slip-resistant rubber grippers. So in effect, Blade Buddy consists of 2 integrated pieces, a soft, silicone rubber pad and a hard plastic shell. Brad
-
oops, i see that it is silicone. i hadn't clicked through far enough :) still wondering about back tho
-
CAN THIS WORK WITH DISPOSABLE RAZORS, OR DISPOSABLE RAZOR HEADS?
-
@rhoda Blade Buddy works with both cartridge refills (disposable razor heads) and disposable razors.
-
How long does the Blade Buddy last?
-
@P.A. Blade Buddy has been designed to last for a minimum of 2 years.
-
Will this work on disposable razors (with no moisturizing strip)?
-
@Jennifer Absolutely. If your razor can cut the hair on your legs, for example, its blades will be straightened on Blade Buddy's silicone rubber surface.
-
should this be used after each shave, and aprox. how many strokes are needed ? looks like another great grommet I would be happy to own!
-
@christopher Blade Buddy can be used either before or after you shave. We recommend that 15-20 strokes (in the direction opposite to shaving) when you first get started (takes approx. 5-8 seconds).
-
Does this work with blades that have the lubricating strip?
-
@sandra Yes. Any razor blade that's designed to cut hair will work with Blade Buddy: Gillette, Schick, Wilkinson Sword, Venus, Daisy... all the major (and minor) brands.
-
during the vid demo, something was sprayed on the rubber pad, what was that ? and is it
necessary to purchase that item as well ??? -
Hi Dom, shaving cream was sprayed on the rubber pad. It is recommended to do that before each use.
-
Does the silicon sharpening pad need to be replaced? If so, can it be purchased separately or do you have to buy the whole system again?
-
@Lawrence While the silicone pad will not wear out for at least 2 years, your suggestion for a replacement pad is a very good one. Thanks!
-
You cannot believe how excited I am to order Blade Buddy! I am going to fish the blade I just tossed out of the trash this morning and give it a go the second my shipment arrives! Thanks for making a product that stretches the life of such an expensive but necessary purchase!!
-
@Karyn Here are some helpful hints:
How do I use Blade Buddy?
Step 1: Lubricate Blade Buddy with a thin layer of shaving cream or soap.
Step 2: Set razor blades flat on the three arrows at the bottom of the pad. With light pressure and moderate speed push your razor up the entire Blade Buddy surface.
Step 3: Lift razor and repeat 15 to 20 times, keeping the pad lubricated.
Make sure to NEVER pull the razor backwards along the pad.
Will Blade Buddy restore my old, dull razor?
Blade Buddy is designed to maintain the straightness of new or like new razors. While it is an amazing product, it cannot restore blades that have been used over a
long period of time and are rusted or overly damaged.
How can I best maintain Blade Buddy?
Rinse your Blade Buddy clean after each use to ensure this essential daily shaving accessory will be ready for the next time you shave, it’s that simple! -
does Grommet guarantee this product to perform as described?
-
@Jerry Grommet CEO here. We will refund your purchase if you find the performance falls short of your expectations. We do test each Grommet and try our darndest to not put you in that position of having to return a Grommet. In fact I am very pleased that less than 3% of Grommets come back to us and most of those are for "changed my mind" reasons. The norm for retail sites is 8-25% returns. We just don't put those kind of products in front of you.
-
I was really excited to read "Blade Buddy re-straightens the blades on any standard razor with a few simple swipes" but sadly this is very much untrue.
Ubiquity does not mean 'standard', and this does not appear to sharpen standard razors -- you need a strop (usually made of leather) for that -- TheBlade Buddy only sharpens cartridges. That's why they're called 'cartridge systems' in the grooming industry.
What about Safety razors? Will the Blade Budy sharpen Safety razors? -
Hi James, as Brad mentioned above:
Blade Buddy works perfectly fine with safety razors. However since most users of safety razor blades are already paying very little for their blades, they're not nearly as interested in Blade Buddy's cost-saving benefits. -
The video talked about using shaving cream to condition the Blade Buddy each day. Because of allergies, I don't use shaving cream. Can I use liquid hand soap or bar soap instead?
-
@Ray Hand soap or bar soap work just as well as shaving cream!
-
I use a 4 blade razor and have a very tuff gray beard. Typically I can't us a blade longer then 7 shaves, so based on your theory I must bend the blade quit a bite during each shave. As we know if you bend a piece of metal back and forth it will ultimately break. But each time you bend it, it is weakened and then bends easier the next time. It would seem that a dozen or so times being bent back and forth would cause the blade to fail. Shouldn't you delay the re-bending until you would normally dispose of the blade. It seems you wasting some of the blades life by doing it with a new blade.
-
@John John's question is a very good one. It does seem that the optimal time to use Blade Buddy would be after you notice a decline in performance.
I also have tough, red/auburn whiskers. My Mach III's usually last for 5-6 shaves.
HOWEVER, this product is very interesting and I will likely buy it. -
Can women use this ?
-
Where is this product made?
-
I'd just like to say that after some research, I've found that any number of blades more than 1 or 2 on a razor is a waste of money. And, this looks like a great product!
-
@Sharon Sorry, Sharon. Can't agree with that. Maybe one or two blades are enough for a woman's legs, but I have never found anything that replaces Mach 3 razors. I've tried different brands, # of blades, etc. I think one things that helps the Mach 3 is that it is easier to rinse under the shower/faucet.
I promise that I don't work for Gillette ;-)
