5 Initial impressions from a new employee

sterling silver necklace

The beautiful sterling silver necklace that I got to take home!

My name is Amy Bernstein and I'm the newest member of the Marketing team here at Daily Grommet. I couldn't be happier to be here! As I stepped into the Daily Grommet offices for my first day, I knew this was a company that's "buzzing". Not a quiet place, there were people milling around, carrying products and boxes to and fro. Since I'm well versed in the culture of a startup, I had some idea of what I was stepping into. Yet every company is slightly different and I couldn't wait to immerse myself in the nuances and culture of this innovative place. Now that I've had a few days to settle in, I'd love to share my thoughts.

My initial impressions of Daily Grommet are nothing short of fantastic and I can say with all honesty, this is one of the nicest, hardest working group of people that I've come across.

Below are 5 of my initial impressions.

Grommets galore! - As soon as I walked in, I was able to recognize an entire storage unit of the wonderful grommets that I've gotten to know over video in the past month. Yet this time, I got to hold them, play with them and test them out for myself! I even looked out my window during the day and saw a group of ladies carrying big, huggable stuffed animals as they walked toward the office. That's right, they were hugging Squishables! Now where could I get my hands on one?!

LOVELY gifts and flowers on my desk - what a welcome! - I've never arrived at a new job with so many thoughtful gifts awaiting me! On my desk was a vase of beautiful pink flowers and 2 Grommets for my very own! I was presented with a bottlesUp water bottle, which was perfect because I drink so much water during the day and a gorgeous necklace from Everyday Artifact . I've never felt so welcome!

Everyone running a million different ways to get things done. - I'm lucky enough to join the team at a time when they're growing. Like crazy! I'm now the thirty-second employee, yet a few short months ago, there were less than twenty. Sometimes the office (and surrounding area) can look like the day before Christmas. Everyone is running different directions - sealing, delivering, shipping, brainstorming and helping out where needed . It's not a quiet, calm place - but that's what I like about it!

This is a place wide open to new ideas! - During my first week, I had the chance to sit in on a "Discovery" meeting where potential Grommets were being tried and tested. As a brand new employee, I wouldn't normally feel so comfortable voicing my opinions, yet this really was the environment to do it. Everyone had thoughts on how this potential Grommet could and would be used and everyone's thoughts counted.

Quirky, funky ideas are encouraged - Daily Grommet makes a point to cater products to a wide array of customers. Yet one thing's for sure. The quirky and different are welcome. Have an idea for a Grommet that might sound crazy? Bring it on! Out-of-the-box thinkers do well here, both as partners and employees. "Don't forget that startups like weird" says Daily Grommet CEO, Jules Pieri, when referring to potential employees. The weirder the idea, the more innovative it probably is! I'm looking forward to what else Daily Grommet has in store for me in the coming weeks and months!
