Celebrating The Geek Dads

I was contacted to see if I would be interested in receiving a copy of Geek Dad: Awesomely Geeky Projects and Activities for Dads and Kids to Share and instantly said yes. My husband is not a Geek Dad (though he was a bit of a dork in high school) but I am a lover of all things geeky/techie and thought it would be great to read a book about geeky activities to do with your (my) kids.

The book did not disappoint. Heck, even my husband (he who takes all of my electronic hand-me-downs) was intrigued. My two young boys are all about superheroes and cartons and magic, so they were just as enthused. The book has been bookmarked and events have been planned.

I have a copy to give away to one of you lucky, lucky readers. It may be a little late for Father's Day, yes, but there are many days of the year to celebrate the Geek Dad in your life. If you would like to win a copy of Geek Dad by Ken Denmead, simply leave a comment on this post. We will randomly select one winner.

General contest rules: To enter, you must be a U. S. or Canadian resident, and at least 18 years of age and you must leave a comment or question on today’s post. No purchase necessary. The winner(s) will be randomly selected and will get to choose three of the above titles. Employees, contractors, and the families of employees and contractors of Daily Grommet, Inc. are not eligible to enter. You are not eligible to win if you have received a prize or giveaway from Daily Grommet in the last six months. Void where prohibited. Contest will run from 8:00 am EST June 16th through 10:00 pm EST June 16th, 2010.

In our house it's the Geeky mom who'd like the book!

  • Sue Says:

This is so great! With three boys there are lots of "projects" going on at this house! The boys and their dad built a trebuchet last summer to launch ping pong balls in the backyard. Looking forward to lots of new project ideas!

  • Freya Hurwitz Says:

I'm definitely the geek in the family-- as I wanted the new LED TV for mother's day, but my husband is getting there... I'm sure he'd love this book, and maybe a mom can even do some of these projects :)

  • lexan koenig Says:

i would love one! i'm the geeky one around here, always fixing something, whether it's plumbing or electrical or carpentry. i leave the high and heavy stuff to my boyfriend and son, both are over 6' and much more able to change lightbulbs for ceiling fixtures, rip out cabinets, etc. this would be an awesome book to have!

  • Wilma Sibal Says:

This would be great for my husband.. He loves doing 'geeky' stuff so these projects would be great to do with his nieces & nephews.

  • Julie C. Says:

Heh, I don't know I should be giving him any more ideas! :-)

  • Elizabeth F. Says:

Being out numbered in a house full of males isn't easy. We are always looking for cool projects to do that aren't too girly. This book could be the answer for one outstanding summer!

  • Vnitz Says:

We were geeky before geeky was cool ;-) Dad would LOVE doing these with the little squids!

  • Nancye Davis Says:

This sounds like a fun book my family would enjoy.

My husband is a geek, through and through, but a cool one at that. The book would be a great way for him to pass down the geekness to our boy!

  • Ron Miller Says:

I am certainly qualified as a Geek Dad

  • Matt Mansfield Says:

I can't wait to share this with my three boys and one girl - they are gonna' love it!

We love geeky things - in fact, I chose to honor my dad this year with a video titled, "Best Social Apps and Online Sites for Dads on Fathers Day" which he loved!

Check it out, and share it with your dad, here: http://www.leverage-the-web.com/index.php/home/91-best-social-apps-and-online-sites-for-dads-on-fathers-day.html.

  • Jennifer Johnston Canfield Says:

My husband is an entomologist. Yes, definitely geeky, but geeky cool, not just geeky.

  • Michelle Cazella Says:

This would be perfect for my hubby. For Fathers Day he is getting another t-shirt made by the kids with there hand prints on front and the tag and on the back their foot prints and the tag . We did this last year and he's worn out the shirt. He's begged for another one! But I would also like something like this book for him. He is the ultimate geek! :)

  • Kristin Lindstrom Says:

Our entire household is a geek haven. Love it!

  • Cynthia Phoel Says:

Oh, I have the perfect, quintessentially geeky husband for this--the guy who loved getting his PhD in electrical engineering. I think I'm too late for the contest. It's not on Amazon. How can I get a copy of this book?

  • Kamela Tall Says:

While the Dad in our household is not technically a geeky Dad...the rest of us are and he is more than happy to follow along. We love this idea! It will certainly help with his geek education.

  • Tori Says:

Thank you all for commenting! So fun to see the geeky comments ;). The random winner selected was Austin- congrats!
