For Japan, With Love | A Day of Silence

There will be no blog post on Friday. We are joining a large group of  bloggers in  a day of silence for Japan. Bloggers  Ever-Ours and Utterly Engaged have created the site, the bloggers day of silence, and raising awareness, and we are eager to join in.

We have all been glued to the news and have seen the horrific images of people devastated, suffering and scared. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the recent devastation in Japan.

I don't understand A Day of Silence. In my opinion bloggers are in a unique position to engage and inform others as to how they can help and underestand what has happened and how it is affecting those touched by tragedy. We are innundated with information and sadly misinformation from mainstream media but blogs often give a very different perspective and I am saddened to see that stop even if just for a day.

Valerie, you make a great point about blogs being a platform for dialogue and engagement around current events such as this. I think the term "silence" may be a bit confusing in this circumstance. Today a group of bloggers have dedicated (perhaps a better description) their blog platform to support the relief effort in Japan. By following the link above, you can donate monetarily to help those in Japan. You can see here: http://www.firstgiving.com/fundraiser/utterly-engaged/shelter-box-usa that the goal was to raise $5,500 in relief funds and alread over $40,000 has been collected in this fundraiser.
