Tom Stewart and Michael Charley are no strangers to The Grommet. In fact, we launched their product Salsabol back in 2011. Salsabol is a functional yet beautiful upgrade to your typical dip bowl. It's with this same spirit of function and design that Tom and Michael have launched their most recent product -- Sunski. Today, we've invited Tom to share with us more about the inspiration behind Sunski and their current Indiegogo campaign.

Sunskis are vibrant polarized sunglasses inspired by the vintage colors and beach styles that I discovered on a surf trip in Australia. Last summer, my business partner Michael and I launched a Kickstarter campaign aimed at producing the first run of Sunskis. We introduced four different colors and in less than a month, raised over $157,000 in pre-sales. Since then, we have worked to perfect the Sunski image with high quality packaging and an overall brand ethos that champions quality, affordability, and a love of the outdoors.
The Sunskis themselves are made of lightweight, hand-polished polycarbonate frames accented by flexible 5-spoke aluminum hinges. All Sunski lenses are brightly colored mirror tints made of a solid polarization core. The sunglasses comes conveniently in our trademark travel boxes that include a microfiber pouch. Best of all, every pair of polarized Sunskis is affordable. We don't like how expensive designer sunglasses are, so we decided to make Sunskis different. As independent designers operating outside the corporate sunglasses world, we can make the Sunskis with a lot of the designer features normally found in shades with a price tag that's four times as expensive.
Just a few weeks ago, we launched our first product expansion since the Originals we started on Kickstarter. Our brand new, Sunski Walkabouts feature the same lightweight materials and polarized, mirror-tinted lenses, with the added touch of matte-black finished frames. Committed to crowdfunding as a way to fund new product expansions, we've has launched the Walkabouts on Indiegogo, a similar crowdfunding platform to Kickstarter. You can check out our campaign here. Our campaign finishes this Friday, and we're only making a limited run of Walkabouts, so be sure to check us out soon! The clock is ticking!
Thanks Tom for stopping by The Grommet blog and sharing Sunski with us! What do you think? Can we help these guys meet their goal by Friday? Let's help them spread the word about their campaign on Indiegogo!
