Meet the Maker: Tara Petrilli of Susquehanna Glass Co.

In our Meet the Maker series, you hear from our Makers on their journeys as entrepreneurs and how you, The Grommet Community, have changed their businesses for the better. Today, we're catching up with Tara Petrill of Susquehanna Glass Co. Tara is part of this third-generation operation that has a 100+ year history of making etched glass in the USA. Susquehanna believes glass can have personal meaning and Tara is sharing a little more about her experience being a part of this long lasting company.

Meet the Maker

Tell us more about your design inspiration.
We're constantly developing new designs so, keeping a pulse on what’s trending on sites like Pinterest is a good starting point. Paying attention to advertising campaigns is also a good source of inspiration. Sometimes ideas simply pop into my head in the middle of the night.

How do you get around creative blocks?
I step away for a while or sleep on it. Approaching a block with a clear, fresh mind generally does the trick.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
A veterinarian. So, not surprisingly, my favorite design theme is anything pet related.

What advice would you give yourself 10 years ago?
Be assertive and confident in your opinions and ideas. Being part of The Grommet is a good example. I felt so strongly that we would be a great fit so, I didn’t back down and here we are today.

What has been the most rewarding part of business for you?
Hearing that an item made the perfect gift or that someone uses their glass every day. Just knowing that we are a part of so many special occasions is extremely gratifying.

Our Community wants to know that their support of you and your product has made a difference. How has The Grommet Community made an impact?
Though Susquehanna Glass has been in business for over 100 years, many people are not aware of our products and capabilities. So, being introduced to The Grommet community has been a very rewarding experience. The fantastic Maker’s page that was created for us has spotlighted our products so beautifully and the marketing support has been outstanding. In the end, the amazing reviews and kind words from Grommeteers is a great pat on the back.

Hi Tara! Years ago I took some of my Mom's crystal that I had inherited to Replacements Ltd. to see if they could identify it. It is from your company and I believe it is called Rhapsody. My aunt had the same pattern and I received some of hers as well! Glad your company is doing well!

Because I saw them on The Grommet, I ordered four sets of your longitude/latitude coordinates glasses for a friend who has four homes. A big hit. Unique and lovely. This was a great gift and I have had people asking me where I got them.

  • Linda Pasini Says:

Hi Tara, I just love your glasses with latitude and longitude. I sent them to my daughter who lives in Hawaii (I live in Ohio) just to remind her where her roots are. She loves them and understands it is a hint to move closer to me. Thank you for your talent. Hope you continue to prosper!

  • Patricia Berrini Says:

    Hi Tara,
I'm excited to find you and read about you here on The Grommet. I met you a few years ago at the Howard Dean event in Lancaster. I always meant to follow up and visit your company.
I'm going to be in Chester Country later this month and will try to make this happen.
    Best regards, Patricia
