If you haven't heard the name- Leslie Hayward you are in for a treat. This southern-belle may be sweet and charming but she is also a sharp inventor with a great go-get 'em personality (just watch her on ABC's Shark Tank or read her small business tips featured in Inc. Magazine).
It's no secret that the Daily Grommet team loves grilling accessories and when we first met Leslie, we found in her an instant friend (after all she is the self proclaimed grilling queen). Because we are always interested in a product's story, we were curious how Leslie came up with her idea. Here is what she told us about how her invention, Grill Charms was born:
"While sitting down to eat at a dinner party I was hosting, my husband served me an extra hot Jamaican Jerk piece of chicken instead of a mild one because he had forgotten which pieces were which. After this very memorable and very spicy light bulb moment in April 2006 I have felt what I can only describe as a compulsion to insure every American gets what they want - how they want it - hot off the grill. So, I invented Grill Charms™, the absolute "must have" grilling accessory that is revolutionizing the American cook-out. My vision is to see Grill Charms™ as prominent in the American household as the wine charm."
So what exactly are Grill Charms?
They are dime-sized solid stainless steel charms that are placed in your food BEFORE grilling. The serrated stems hold them in securely while flipping, moving and grilling food like you normally do. Grill Charm food prior to cooking to distinguish spices and flavors, steak temperatures, or to avoid health or allergy issues. Grill Charms identifies your food before, during and after grilling so when dinner comes off the grill, simply look for your Grill Charm, and everyone knows which one is theirs.
We also like the new trend Leslie shared with us: "Season your own" cook-out. This is where the host provides the meat, the guests pick their Grill Charm and choose from a variety of sauces or rubs that the host has set out. Guests flavor their meat any way they wish and nobody, including the grill master needs to know or care how it's seasoned. When food is brought to the table, guests simply look for their Grill Charm.
Thanks Leslie for sharing Grill Charms with us. We firmly believe that making a cookout even more enjoyable is always a good thing. Keep up the hard work and we will keep rooting you on!
Leslie is graciously offering Daily Grommet readers $5.00 off the purchase of any Grill Charm collection. Just put "grilling" in the coupon code at http://www.grillcharms.com/ for $5.00 off. Thanks Leslie!
