Bocce Just Got Better

The thing about Bocce is that everyone can play. Young or old, fast or slow, anywhere you can clear out a patch of ground and gather a group, bocce is the antidote to boredom. John Lehmann, the founder of BocceNation.com and a former tennis professional, knows that sports can unify people in a way that nothing else can. And he knew that bocce is both fun and accessible, but traditional kits felt a little lacking. With the Bocce-in-a-Bag set, John improved on a classic. For starters, forget the traditional red and green balls that are hard to see in the grass. These are blue and gold – much easier to spot. Plus this set includes a portable court (which anyone who has played in a backyard with wild throwers will appreciate). And the days of "no, I think mine is closer" arguments are over, because the included Determinator is a brilliant measuring device to lay all scoring arguments to rest. But perhaps our favorite improvement is the included scoring/beverage stand. It's a little touch of luxury no matter where your game unfolds. This set will last and last, and you'll feel a little fancy every time you take it out. Happy throwing!

Bocce – the ideal summer sport – for over 5,000 years. I’m John Lehmann and I’m pleased to be

introducing our Bocce Nation, Bocce-in-a-Bag™ bocce kit to Daily Grommet. We’ve taken the

timeless sport of bocce and revolutionized and “portablized” it with our bocce product. Bocce is easy to

learn and fun to play but we felt that existing bocce products were missing a few ingredients. Virtually

all bocce sets offered only bocce balls and maybe a sheet of rules. Not ours.

We wanted to build a better bocce experience. We started with a portable bocce court that can be set

up virtually anywhere. We changed the color of balls so they were bright and easy to see. We then

added some pretty cool accessories including our “Determinator” measuring device - for settling those

occasional arguments. We developed our bocce and beverage scoring stand which allows you to keep

score, and figure out how to play, while providing a convenient spot to rest your beverage. We then

streamlined the scoring, added a pretty fun and comprehensive rule book and packaged it all in stylish

carrying bag. It’s bocce on the go, wherever you want to play.

Plus, we’ve added some creative and fun programming for groups and events and have launched the

most successful bocce iphone app in the world. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have today.

Awesome presentation of your product on the Daily Grommet! Hats off to John and all of the Bocce Nation "family" for their innovation. I am going to order a set for our Wounded Warriors at the Fisher House at BAMC. It will be awesome for them to compete with one another as they recover. Great fun!!!

I, a self-proclaimed Bocce enthusiast, am always up for a friendly game but I often find in social environments my love for the game is hindered by the unsportsmanlike, competitive nature of others. It's concerning. Ever consider publishing a hand-held "Guide to Bocce Etiquette" and throwing that in the bag? Could also work well on the App. Thanks! -AK

This seems so cool - I just have a few questions. What size is the portable court? It looks slightly smaller than the courts I've seen the old guys playing on, any reason for that? Otherwise, great idea, thanks Grommet for featuring.

@Scott Convo: Hi Scott. Our courts are 36' long x 7' wide, which is smaller than traditional 60', 72', or even 90' courts. We did quite a bit of testing for all age groups and surfaces and our size was ideal for playability and portability. The boundaries make a big difference for visibility too. This court will fit in most every back yard - for a lot more bocce play. Plus, we can organize several courts together for group and social events. Thanks for the question and I hope you enjoy the kit. John

Looks fun! Question: why the blue and gold balls? Usually I see bocce sets with green and red balls...and Italian men playing.

@Dan: Hey Dan. When we did testing we found that yes most bocce balls were burgundy and dark green (colors of the Italian flag). We also discovered that people who were color blind had trouble distinguishing those colors, especially in the grass. So we developed our blue and gold colors so they would stand out and be easily seen. Thanks for participating!

@Jonny Bocce: We could't agree more. Bocce, in general, is such a fun social game. And John has brought it to a whole other level. It is the kind of game you can roll out at BBQ or even at a wedding, where people are all dressed up, with two families that don't yet know each other, and can mingle while playing.

I was excited to receive the bocce set, and extremely pleased with the whole package. Playing the game even lured our family out of our house's comfortable AC and into the 95 degree Georgia heat for a couple of hours. We're looking forward a little cooler weather and many more hours of fun with this well-designed set.

@Cindy Dunn: That's excellent, Cindy! You and your family enjoying the Bocce set instead of the AC in that kind of weather is a true testimonial. Glad you like the set so much, thank you for coming back with your great feedback.
