Toy Bat

Batter Up!

In the summer of 2008, Bill Page stumbled upon an old lobster buoy beached along the chilly Maine waters, handed it to a little girl, pitched her a tennis ball and ba-ba-buoy, she hit it out of the proverbial park. In that instant, The Original Buoy Bat was born and Bill was on a mission to create a new novelty sport that kids from age 2 to 92 can enjoy.

Unlike Bill’s first prototype, today’s Buoy Bats are made from brand new, authentic lobster buoys finished with bat-grade hardwood handles. The secret fun of the bat is in the giant “sweet spot” of the bullet-nose buoy, making it easy to connect with a ball and send it flying. Each Buoy Bat comes with a Little Blaster ball that’s soft and floats, making it perfect for the beach or the backyard.

Denyse Miller and Buoy Bill were neighbors growing up and reconnected on Facebook. She suggested Daily Grommet test his invention. Buoy did our testers have fun swinging for the beaches in sunny Santa Monica.

For sluggers young and old, it feels great to step up to the plate and take a swing with a Buoy Bat. Play ball!

I was also at the "hill" playing Buoy Bat. I am not an athlete in any way shape or form, but found myself running the bases and having so much fun in the snow! I and am also very excited to include Buoy Bat in a Derby fundraiser this summer for Breast Cancer. Ofcourse the Buoy Bats will be pink! So proud of Buoy Bill Page and my whole family LOVES Buoy Bat!!!

Thanks to Jen, Cathy, and Tori. We (Buoy Sue and I) are excited about the potential Buoy Bat holds for becoming a new tool to generate interest in community activities and events. As Cathy mentioned, Buoy Bats will be used in Team Laffalots Annual Home Run Derby in South Berwick this summer. (they started with real baseballs and bats but will have a Buoy Bat division this year!) Team Laffalot is a group of women who've walked in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer for 3 years running...this will be #4 and Buoy Bat is proud to be a part of it!

@Bill Page: Congrats to Bill and his wicked cool invention. The thing that makes this bat different is you can stand it up on a table or a mantle and it's a conversation starter because it looks like artwork.

@Bob Breneman: Thanks Bob!...that's an angle I hadn't considered but you're right. You don't even need to use it to enjoy it. Just set it on the counter and stare at it. I'm trying it now after a long day...and it's relaxing...but maybe I'll pick it up and hit Daisy (the dog) some tennis balls!

    Hey Bill,

I've seen the Buoy Bat and Ball used at an ice rink. And the kids were on skates! What fun they were having!!! I'm going to send them to my nephews' families- they'll love it. What a great idea.

@Nancy...that's awesome! I used to play a lot of hockey and was a rink manager in a previous career. I think I've forgotten how to skate but think playing buoy bat on the ice would be a good way to reward kids for working hard during practice with a little change of pace at the end.

My first experience playing Buoy Bat was this past winter at a ski hill! We had about thirty people divided up into two teams. Everyone was playing from ages five to sixty five. It was such an incredible community day and I still can hear the laughter and giggles. The perfect game to bring people together!

What a great idea, especially playing in the snow! An all season sport! I'm sure my grandchildren will love it.

Another great idea is the Daily Grommet. I'll look forward to more creative ideas and a novel place to shop.

What a great idea! I would love to see you offer this with a choose of balls...either the small one or the bigger one. To buy this for a younger child you have to buy both the bat and a set of the larger balls. Thanks!
