Kite & Kite Flying Handle

It’s a Breeze

A kite launcher with a fishing pole design, the Castakite is the perfect device for kids and kiting novices. Launch just by pushing a button, reel back in like you just caught a trout. Flying a kite is now a breeze.

Unsurprisingly, Castakite’s founder, Matthias Hackett, is an avid fly fisherman. He wanted a way to inspire kids
to play outdoors and thought the lure of easy kite flying would do the trick. Using his fishing rod for inspiration, he made getting a kite in the air as easy as pressing a button.

Castakite is Made in the USA, and it comes fully assembled with a kite included. Open the package and you’re ready for flying. It also works with your own kite, too. Without having to worry about tangles, burns from strings, and, especially, crashing kites, this form of easy kite flying is sure to keep you hooked.

How long did it take to invent the Castakite?

@KJ It took about 4 years total from idea-finished product. It started out as just a fun summer vacation idea with friends and family.....but each year I would return to our yearly beach trip with a more improved prototype. Each year a new problem would arise and I would return back to the workshop (shown in the video). After about 9 total prototypes the "Castakite" was born! -Matt

    Hi Matthias,

I would like to congratulate you on your innovative product. I think it is great that you are trying to get our kids to go outside and play. As a mom, that is my biggest obstacle for my kids health care. Thank you for creating a fun tool to help accomplish this! (Oh, and I will be buying two of these on payday!)

@Cindy Hey Cindy, Thank you so much for your kind words! You are much like my mom as well. She would always get us outside and active. Growing up in the 90's our generation was surrounded by video games. Indoor play is fun but outdoor play tends to be more active contributing to a healthier upbringing. Thanks for getting your kids outside! Continue the great work. -Matt

The video suggests "150 feet" maximum height (or length). Can this distance be increased, such as with a thinner string? Also, what type of string is used, and can other brands be substituted?

@Barry Hey Barry, Thanks for the question. We use 30lb premium Dacron line. When we were testing length of line we took about 20 kids out to a park and had many different lengths on each Castakite. We tested from 75 feet to about 500 feet. We found out what worked and what didn't. We found that 150 feet was the happy medium for kids. 150 feet allows the kid to really get up there providing the "wow" factor, but isn't so much where it becomes dangerous. Also, for some of the younger users it is a lot of reeling when you get up to 200+ feet mark. Other types of line can be used as well. We recommend the Dacron line as it's smooth, tangle resistant and safest for the young ones.

Do you think 6 years is too young to use the "castakite"?
