Mix & Match Plush Animals

New breeds

With interchangeable arms, legs, and ears that encourage creativity and humor, Chimeras are a whole new species of stuffed animals. What if an elephant wanted to fly? No problem. Just attach a pair of bat wings and turn him into an Elebat. An owl needs to leap? Give him frog legs and he becomes an Og.

Chimeras are the first
product from Walrus Toys, founded by duo Avik Maitra and Rich Moore. Their inaugural challenge was to create a stuffed animal that would get picked up again and again, not simply sit on a shelf.

They hit the mark with these quirky creatures, whose friendly faces alone will make you smile. Beautifully--and smartly--packaged in pairs, Chimeras let kids start creating cuddly cross breeds right away. From there, it’s a funny, furry path to using their imagination.

Rich and I came up with Chimeras because we wanted to make stuffed animals that were more dynamic and interactive. We think Chimeras are great for creative kids that like to put things together, as well as for destructive kids that like to take things apart. We especially love seeing the crazy combinations and imaginative species that kids create. We're so excited for Chimeras to be on the Grommet.

Hi Avik and Rich, I love this idea, and I have a couple of questions. The first is if this is safe for the under 3 crowd? The second is, have you considered making a version of this for our four footed friends. Mine is always disassembling her toys, and I have to sew them back together. How wonderful if I could just put them back together without needle and thread? right now it looks as if eyes and the fitments would be at risk for chewing.

    Hi Veronica,

Amy from The Grommet team here. Avik recommends these toys for 3+ in terms of safety. Children playing with them under 3 years old will require strong adult supervision.

I think the version for our 4 legged friends is a great idea and it would likely need a few modifications to make sure dogs wouldn't be able to still chew through any portion. Let's see what Avik has to say - stay tuned.

Cute idea! But we have several children...I can see the fights already. Are the parts interchangeable only in the pairs in which they are sold? Or, could you, for example, stick the frog legs on the elephant?

    Hi Maria,

Good question. All the Chimeras are interchangeable with each other. Right now Chimera is available in the sets you see here. So the monkey is interchangeable with the monkey and the panda is interchangeable with the giraffe. If you purchase more than 1 set, you can change them as you'd like. Hope that makes sense.
