GPS Connected Safety Whistle

Automatic Alert

GEKO has paired the tried and true safety whistle with an emergency tracker to give you 21st century peace of mind. With a blow of the GPS-connected whistle (or the stealthier push of a button), GEKO calls, or sends an email or text message to three of your contacts. They’re notified of your exact location, too—and will receive updates on your whereabouts every two to three minutes until you deactivate the alert.

It’s a simple but tech-savvy way to stay safe—like if you’re out late at night, to keep kids prepared for emergencies, or just for an extra sense of security. This smart whistle is one you’ll hope to never have to use, but will feel safer to have on-hand.

@Kathleen This can be like an accessory to your carry on, so you can grab it fast when you need it. We suggest you can attach it to your work bag, gym bag, or school backpack.

What is the content of the message sent to text, voice, or email?

@Charles You can actually define the content on your own, or you can use the default one - I am XXX, need your help.

My mother is in her 80's and is in need of this but she does not have a smart phone-just a flip phone. Will this device work for her?

  • Mark

@Rosemary This device will require a smartphone (iPhone or Android phone) to work with.

Would this work for someone traveling in Europe? Or even Asia?

Hi Nancy, this may create problems as it is often expensive and difficult to call or text internationally and those are two of the actions GEKO takes. I'll let Mark provide more detail about this.

  • Nancy
    2/16/2017 11:14 AM

And how would it work in the wilderness?

  • Mike
    Mike – Grommet Team
    2/16/2017 1:46 PM

Hi Nancy, a lot of it would depend on cell reception. It would connect to your phone via Bluetooth fine, but notifications might not send.

  • Jacqueline
    2/16/2017 11:15 AM

How do you connect this with your phone and contacts you want to use for this? Does this use any additional data usage or add any additional costs to your monthly cell phone bill?

  • Mike
    Mike – Grommet Team
    2/16/2017 12:09 PM

Hi Jacqueline, it connects via Bluetooth. The use of apps would use data but Bluetooth connection wouldn't add to data.

  • Emmarie

Would this be valuable while out running?

  • Mike

Yes, I do think it would be very valuable while running.

  • Michelle

Does the whistle automatically sound when you hit the button or only manually by blowing into it. Video wasn't very clear about this.

@Michelle Hi Michelle. Only by blowing on it. You can also set the app to make your phone sound when the Smart Whistle is activated.

Wondering if this could work for my elderly Mother-In-Law instead of a product like "lifeAlert" . Can it be programed to dial 911 as a contact?

  • Mike
    Mike – Grommet Team
    2/16/2017 11:42 AM

Hi Victoria, this probably shouldn't replace a LifeAlert. I'll leave Mark to answer whether 911 can be programmed as a contact.

  • Janeen
    2/16/2017 12:21 PM

@Mike I would also be interested to know if this could be programmed to have 911 one of the contacts. I am considering this for my college student.

@Janeen Hi Janeen, the 'Call' feature is only when the Smart Whistle is used with Android devices. If this is the case, then yes, you can set it to make the call to 911.

if they steal your purse with phone....does the device work away from your phone....and could that be used to track your stolen phone?

  • Mike
    Mike – Grommet Team
    2/16/2017 12:02 PM

Hi Susan, if it is within Bluetooth range it will work away from your phone. Your phone's own GPS will help track it.

  • Sandra
    2/16/2017 11:50 AM

Is the GPS always on or does it turn on and search your location only after you activate the whistle? And does the phone connect to the whistle through bluetooth? Would it have to be connected in order to send the alerts-- specifically, would you always have to have this device connected to your phone through bluetooth in order to be ready for any emergency?

  • Mike
    Mike – Grommet Team
    2/16/2017 12:07 PM

You'll have to have your location on and Google Maps or WISO apps enabled. Yes, GEKO connects via Bluetooth.

Hi Sandra, the GPS location function of smart phone needs to be always on to let whistle to get the location data every 2 to 3 minutes after the whistle be activated.

The phone and whistle is connecting automatically through the Bluetooth.

  • Nancy
    2/16/2017 12:08 PM

Does your phone have to be on for this to work?

  • Mike

    Yes, it does, Nancy.

How long is the strap? It would be ideal if it would fit around your wrist for quick access in an emergency & you don't have your purse

  • Mark

    2/16/2017 1:50 PM

@Georgia Hi Georgia, You can wrap the strap around your wrist, though we wouldn't recommend it because the whistle would be to bulky. We suggest using it on bags, purses, backpacks, or even pockets/belt straps.

  • Mark

@Eldon The battery source is a 2032 coin battery. One of these is included.
